2021 French Open Tennis – Day 9 Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter final line up in the French Open will be finalised on Monday when the top half of both singles draws play out to conclude the fourth round on the two show courts at the Roland Garros complex in Paris.

We have that side of the draw where the big name men are back on the court, while the women’s matches have plenty of intrigue to them as well so we should be treated to another decent day of tennis, albeit one match shorter than Sunday due to the withdrawal of Roger Federer.

Day 8 Recap

We saw a couple of big shocks in the women’s draw on Sunday with former Grand Slam champions Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams both beaten by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Elena Rybakina respectively. In the men’s competition there were straight forward wins for Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev while over in the women’s draw our outright bet Paula Badosa made it through to the last eight.

It wasn’t a good day for us betting wise however though. Pablo Carreno Busta was outgunned for the first two sets against Stefanos Tsitsipas and while he rallied in the third he couldn’t convert a 4-1 lead which would have taken us beyond the games line had he won the set. Kei Nishikori started very well against Alexander Zverev but after losing the first set 6-4 offered next to nothing for the remainder of the match and succumbed quite tamely.

Philippe Chatrier Court

We begin with the women on the Philippe Chatrier Court on Monday as the young sensation Coco Gauff takes on an Ons Jabeur who will see a real opportunity to go even further this week in front of her. When they are done the world number one Novak Djokovic will look to make it through to meet Matteo Berrettini in the quarter final. The Serbian meets Lorenzo Musetti. The day session concludes on the main court with a repeat of a match from the draw last year as Rafael Nadal continues his title defence against Jannik Sinner. The night session sees the other defending champion in action when Iga Swiatek goes up against Marta Kostyuk.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

The women get things up and running on the second court on Monday, which has a match less than anticipated after the Roger Federer withdrawal. That means the former Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens is in action when she takes on the Czech doubles specialist Barbora Krejciova who is making a good singles impression here. Diego Schwartzman will then entertain the crown in the only men’s match of the day as he faces Jan-Lennard Struff before the action is rounded off with the beaten finalist of eight months ago, Sofia Kenin, meeting the dangerous Greek player Maria Sakkari.

Betting

Just the one bet interests me over the course of the day on Monday. It comes in the last match on over on the Suzanne Lenglen Court where the former finalist Sofia Kenin takes on the tough Greek player Maria Sakkari in a match I’m expecting to be something of a classic and one which can contain more than 21.5 games. Both women have shown in the first week of the tournament that they are up for scrapping it out and that is exactly what I’m expecting to see here.

These two ladies have met on three previous occasions and they have all gone to a deciding set. None of them have been on the red dirt but I don’t think either have that much of an advantage over the other on the surface so I really don’t expect to see a one-sided match here I have to say. These are two of the best competitors on the WTA Tour so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if this one only needs two sets to reach 22 games. History tells us we’ll get a third set though so the over will do me here.
