2021 German Masters Snooker – Quarter Finals Tips and Betting Preview

It is quarter final day in the German Masters on Friday with all four matches taking place across two sessions of action as we gear towards the business end of the latest leg of the BetVictor Euro Series inside the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

As is often the case with this tournament we have seen a number of shocks along the way but we have two matches which have gone to the form book and a couple where players under the radar will battle it out.

Afternoon Session

There are two matches in the afternoon session with the pick of them very much being the one on the main table. That sees the world number one Judd Trump continuing his title defence when he goes up against the Chinese superstar Ding Junhui, who is looking to emulate his countryman Yan Bingtao and land a major title to begin 2021. On the streamed table two men who may well feel they are on a freeroll here battle it out. It is a big afternoon for Barry Hawkins who is looking to take advantage of overturning a 4-0 deficit in the first round to regain his top 16 place when he takes on a Jordan Brown who is in his first ranking event quarter final and had to come from 4-1 down in the last 16 to make it this far.

Evening Session

It is a big evening session for followers of our outright bets as they are both in action across the two tables. On the main table the former world champion Stuart Bingham will go up against a Jack Lisowski who continues to show good form despite having to miss The Masters earlier in the month when he failed a Covid-19 test. Over on the streamed table two of Leicester’s finest will battle it out as Tom Ford will look to make it through to another ranking event semi-final when he goes up against Joe O’Connor, who is beginning to show the form he offered up when he burst onto the scene a couple of years ago.

Betting

I’m largely going to ride my outright bets over the course of the day on Friday but there is one bet that I like which is on Ding Junhui to get the better of Judd Trump in the afternoon session. I’m not convinced Trump is quite on top form at the minute. In fairness to him we’ve seen him come out slowly in tournaments for a lot of the season and then find his best snooker the longer he stays in but you can always tell when he isn’t going on all cylinders by his scoring. He hasn’t hit a century in his two matches and that is incredibly rare which suggests he is either rusty or a little out of touch.

Ding doesn’t have any of that to worry about. He was a bit fortunate to come through the first round although I suspect that was as much about underestimating his opponent rather than anything else. He showed his class on Thursday when he walloped Dominic Dale. Ding has been going ok recently but he has kept on running into Ronnie O’Sullivan who he seems to have a mental issue with getting over the line against. That doesn’t seem to appear against anyone else though so as the better player of the two this week I think the 2/1 on Ding to beat Trump is a little too big.
