2021 LV= County Championship – Tuesday 21st September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The LV= County Championship season concludes this week with the final set of fixtures in the three divisions beginning on Tuesday and we are set for a fascinating finale to the campaign with no fewer than four teams in with a chance of being crowned champions.

Unfortunately there is no TV coverage of these matches so we will be over to the live streams for the ability to be able to watch any of the action. As we’ve said all season though they are more than good enough to get the job done.

Division 1

Just 6.5pts separate the top four in Division One so there is going to be the mother of races for the title this week. Hampshire are in pole position and they head to third placed Lancashire so you would think the title winner will come out of that match. If it doesn’t then Warwickshire who are in second host rock bottom Somerset who might still be reeling from losing in the final of the Vitality Blast on Saturday evening. There is still a chance that fourth placed Nottinghamshire can come out as champions. They host Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

Division 2

There isn’t a whole lot for winning Division 2 but Essex only need a few points to secure top spot. They host a Northamptonshire side who were entitled to sack the season off but haven’t done so to their credit. If Essex have a mare in that game then Gloucestershire could still win the division. They take on bottom of the pile Durham in Bristol. The other match in the division sees Surrey playing host to a Glamorgan side for whom this has been a great season after their Royal London One Day Cup success.

Division 3

There is even less on the line for winning Division 3 but the two sides who are in with a chance of doing it meet in Canterbury where the Vitality Blast champions Kent host the leaders Middlesex. Just two points separate them going into that match so everything is up for grabs there. The other two matches sees Sussex hosting Derbyshire and Worcestershire welcoming Leicestershire to the final game of the season at New Road.

Betting

Middlesex and Kent have been the standout sides in Division 3 but I fancy Middlesex are just that bit stronger and they can prove that here. It would be easy for me to base this bet on the likelihood of the Kent celebrations going on for a while after winning the T20 but probably more than that the subconscious that they have achieved their aim this season and face a comedown is more likely the reason why Kent might underperform here if they do.

Middlesex have been completely dominant in their matches and although the same goes for Kent, I just feel there is more depth in the Middlesex side in the key areas, not least the bowling attack. Middlesex have strengthened their batting since the first stage of this competition and that looks like it is having the desired effect. If there was something significant on winning Division 3 then Kent might find it easier to get up for this match but the fact there isn’t means it is easy to see them struggle here. I’ll back Middlesex at even money.
