2021 Modus Online Live Darts League – Wednesday 24th March Tips and Betting Preview

The first group of the week in the Modus Online Live League concludes on Wednesday and with it we will know the identity of the first player who will be lining up in the final group on Saturday. There is plenty to play for over the course of the day with that in mind.

On the face of it top spot in the overall group looks to be between Richie Burnett and Robert Thornton but officially it is a four-way race as Joe Davis and Jamie Caven are still in the hunt so this should be a great day of darts.

The Format

We now know the format for the competition! There are three groups which make up the event each week. Group A has the same six players on the first three days. The winner goes through to the Saturday final while second and third are joined by three new players in Group B to be played on the Thursday and Friday evenings. The top two from that group move into the Saturday final group. The bottom three from Group A meet three new players in Group C on Thursday and Friday morning where the top two move into the Saturday final group where the weekly winner is crowned. Each group sees each player play the others once in each session. All matches in all groups are the best of seven legs and the bookmaker live streaming consoles and the Online Darts YouTube channel has all the coverage.

Tuesday Recap

I expected Richie Burnett and Robert Thornton to show their class in this group at some point and that is exactly what both did on Tuesday on a day where both threw 100 averages and both averaged north of 90 for the day. They also both won four matches on the day too with Burnett winning the daily group on leg difference from his Scottish rival. Darryl Fitton improved to pick up three wins while there were a pair of wins for Joe Davis. Jamie Caven went from top to bottom with just one win, the same number that Barrie Bates picked up.

It was a second winning day of the week for us betting wise with Richie Burnett not worrying about the fact that he didn’t have the throw against Joe Davis. For the second time this week he overcame the youngster without losing a leg to set him on his way to the daily title and help us further recover the losses of last week. We now have a bit of profit for the week to play with which hopefully we can add to over the remaining days this week.

Group Betting

I really wanted to get involved in the group betting for this section on Wednesday but the way the fixtures have worked out I can’t really. I say that for a couple of reasons. The first being that Richie Burnett and Robert Thornton, the two men I expected to show their class in it, have opened up a gap on the rest to the extent that bookmakers go at least 20/1 on the other four players winning the group. I don’t really expect that to happen and I can’t even talk myself into finding value there. The other reason why I can’t really get involved is the group could technically be won in the second match of the day when Richie Burnett faces Robert Thornton with the winner of that match likely to prove hard to stop.

Match Betting

I’m only really keen on betting on matches early on the day on Wednesday because we could get to the stage where dead rubbers come along the longer the day goes on. That means the match that interests me the most is the one which I won on during the play on Tuesday which sees Richie Burnett taking on Joe Davis. Understandably after two 4-0 wins, Burnett’s odds have shortened for this match but there is still a bet I like.

I explained on Tuesday how a gulf a developed across these two players over the competition and that was evident once again when Burnett picked up a second 4-0 win over the youngster this week. Unlike on Monday, Davis didn’t play well against Burnett and paid the price. He only averaged 78.8 which isn’t going to cut it but even when he averaged in the mid-90s he couldn’t get close to the Welsh star. Burnett kept his averages in the 90s throughout Tuesday’s play and even went into the 100s in his last game. He looks a cut above Davis and I expect that gap to be shown on the scoreboard here with Burnett covering a 1.5 leg handicap.
