2021 Scottish Open Snooker Qualifying – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The qualifying competition for the Scottish Open continues on Monday when the biggest name in the whole pre-event takes to the baize on what looks like being another good day of snooker up in Barnsley.

We’ve seen some big names make it through to the main draw already in this event and on Monday the great Stephen Hendry will look to qualify for his home tournament. He is the standout name on a solid schedule.

Early Sessions

Once again there are early sessions which begin at 10am and 1pm. That first session sees the Shootout winner Ryan Day headlining the action. The Welsh star has a tricky little test if he is to make it into the main draw though as he comes up against Lu Haotian in a coin flip clash. The other match on in the early session is also a bit of a coin flip as Peter Devlin takes on another of the promising Chinese players is Gao Yang.

Joe Perry is the big name on show in the second of the two early sessions of play on Monday. He hasn’t started the season how he would have liked to have done so his match against Andrew Pagett is a big game for the veteran you feel. Two of the better youngsters on the tour meet on the other table while that one is going on when Jackson Page takes on Aaron Hill in what could be quite some tussle for a place in the main draw.

Later Sessions

As has been the case throughout this qualifying event, there are 4pm and 7pm starts for the later sessions. The first of those begins with Stephen Hendry looking to build on his win in the qualifying for the English Open when he takes on Allan Taylor for a place in his home tournament. There is a juicy looking match over on the other table as well as Luca Brecel meets Alexander Ursenbacher in a clash between two quality, if a little inconsistent, operators.

The former world finalist Graeme Dott will star in the last session of the day when he takes on the veteran Michael Judge who is back on the tour for the next couple of seasons. This is the home tournament of Dott so he will be eager to win this match and take his place in the main draw. Matt Selt will be looking to follow him into the main event when he takes on Ashley Hugill who has had a solid start to his season and will be looking to improve on that here.

Betting

As much as I like and admire Stephen Hendry, I’m not sure he is going to beat Allan Taylor. I say that purely because the safety play of the legend has not been good since he returned to the tour. He might have put a bit of extra work in for this event given it is his home one and he did beat Michael White to qualify for the English Open main draw but I do think this is a step up on that and I’m just not convinced his all-round game is where it needs to be.

Hendry can still score but Taylor is one of the better scorers of the lower ranked players on the circuit so that isn’t going to do Hendry much good. Although Taylor can’t be called fantastic in the safety department he is competent in it and apart from the fact he hasn’t played for a few weeks after his English Open qualifying match was held over to the main venue, I don’t really see what goes against Taylor here. I fancy him to get the job done in this one.

Tips

Back A.Taylor to beat S.Hendry for a 3/10 stake at 1.80 with Coral
