2021 The Masters Golf – Final Round Tips and Betting Preview

One of the most iconic days of the sporting calendar has arrived as the final round of The Masters takes place on Sunday where we will find out the identity of the first major winner of the year and the latest recipient of the famous green jacket.

There is always something magical about the last day of this special tournament and it never fails to deliver drama, tension and very high quality golf and it would be a real surprise if Sunday is any different given the calibre of names at the top of the leaderboard.

Round 3 Recap

This tournament looked like it was bubbling along into a Sunday shootout, and while that might still be the case, Hideki Matsuyama wasn’t having any of that as he flew past the field to open up a four shot lead. His amazing 65 sees him in front on 11 under with a quartet of players back on seven under. They are Justin Rose, Marc Leishman, Xander Schauffele and Will Zalatoris. Corey Conners is another shot back on six under while Jordan Spieth will launch his final round charge from six behind.

It was another day to forget for us from a betting standpoint despite a positive start by Cameron Champ in his two ball against Si Woo Kim. The American couldn’t maintain his advantage though and fared worse than the Korean when they came out of the rain delay for another disappointing loser. This hasn’t been a great week from a match betting point of view so hopefully we can end it positively on Sunday.

Sunday Betting

There are a couple of markets that I look at when it comes to a bet on Sunday. The first is the outright market but that doesn’t really interest me here. The market is dominated by Hideki Matsuyama and the tournament is in his hands but if he doesn’t win then I’ve got Jordan Spieth two back from the rest and Brian Harman within three of everyone else so I’ve already got interest in a market where I wouldn’t touch the Japanese star at odds on anyway. I also look at the top 10 market to see if someone could come from deep and nail a top 10 finish but the field is a little more stretched than usual and the early starters aren’t really going to get a lot of help from the weather forecast so I’ll just sit on the Spieth and Harman bets and hope they play their way into places if not more.

Sunday 2 Balls

The tournament has all gone to plan and the organisers have got everyone round despite the rain on Saturday so they have been rewarded with the ability to send the field out in two balls on Sunday. The last pair onto the course will Hideki Matsuyama and Xander Schauffele who go out at 19.40 BST with Justin Rose and Marc Leishman out 10 minutes before them. Other notable groups onto the golf course include Phil Mickelson and Francesco Molinari at 17.50 BST and Cameron Smith and Justin Thomas 10 minutes later. It is that penultimate group which interests me from a betting point of view.

Justin Rose vs Marc Leishman

Match tees off at 19.30 BST

Two men who are very much in the hunt for a first green jacket set off in the penultimate group of the week when the former US Open champion Justin Rose takes on a man whose career has everything but a major title on it in Marc Leishman.

Both men sit on seven under par teeing off in this final round but they have got there in very different ways. Rose sat on that score on Thursday evening and has maintained it since, without ever truly convincing it has to be said. Leishman has gradually been improving his score this week and on a firmer course than we saw on Saturday he will be quite at home. Rose’s long game on Saturday in particular was absolutely terrible and had his putter not been red hot he would be way down the field by now. Leishman played some lovely golf on Saturday but never really seemed to get the pace of the greens after the rain delay. I expect him to putt better here and that can be enough to beat a Rose whose position on the leaderboard masks some very ordinary tee to green golf and is made up largely of nine excellent holes on Thursday.
