2021 Vitality T20 Blast – Wednesday 23rd June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

Three matches take place in the Vitality Blast on Wednesday evening as both groups continue along with some sides reaching the halfway mark of their campaign and others moving into the second half of it on an evening where the weather is thankfully expected to play ball.

The opening T20 between England and Sri Lanka is understandably getting the TV treatment on Wednesday evening so once again we are drawn to the county streams to keep up with all of the action.

North Group

Nottinghamshire made their way to the top of the North Group on Tuesday evening but they have the night off so it is Yorkshire who will have the opportunity to hit the summit when they play host to a Worcestershire side who were thrashed by Nottinghamshire on Tuesday and who could only put up 86-8, the sort of display that sends shockwaves through a dressing room. If Yorkshire slip up then Durham could finish the night in top spot. They welcome the winless Northamptonshire up to the Riverside in a match the hosts can’t really afford to lose.

South Group

There is only the one match in the South Group on Wednesday evening but that still sees top spot in that particular table up for grabs as it is Surrey who are in action in the game. A win over Somerset will see them end the first half of their season on top of the pile. Somerset have had their issues with the weather but have played less matches than any other team in the group anyway so they will be pleased to get back out onto the park, although they will know that having lost a couple of matches to the weather, they need to start winning.

Betting

Surrey beat Somerset in the reverse meeting between the two but I’m not convinced they will do the double over the Cidermen here. On that occasion Sam Curran and Jason Roy combined for more than 100 runs at a strike rate of 200 and neither of those are going to be available for the Londoners in this match. It should be said that Somerset will be without their top scorer from that match in Tom Abell, but all in all England have been a lot kinder to Somerset than to Surrey.

Surrey have effectively lost their death bowling attack with the Curran brothers both with England and Reece Topley injured and that could be significant. Apart from Roelof van der Merwe, Somerset have a full strength attack out here and they have a decent enough set of young batsmen to be more than competitive here. Surrey have only played one match since England came calling and they came up way short against a no better than average Essex outfit. That makes me think Somerset are more than a shade of value at 6/5.

Tips

Back Somerset to beat Surrey for a 3/10 stake at 2.20 with William Hill
