2021 World Championship Snooker – Day 14 Tips and Betting Preview

The semi-finals of the World Championship continue inside the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Friday as we head closer to finding out which two men will battle it out for the title over Sunday and Monday.

Both matches saw their first sessions played out on Thursday with the opening semi-final playing two more on Friday with the middle session seeing the second section of the later semi-final being played on what is shaping up to be a decent day of snooker.

Day 13 Recap

It was a tale of two matches really on Thursday and the difference in the two was stark. The first session of the match between Stuart Bingham and Mark Selby was pretty ordinary really as both men struggled to get used to the table. In the end they came out level 4-4. The second semi-final was completely the opposite and the first session of a high quality encounter was dominated by Kyren Wilson, who made three centuries on his way to a 6-2 overnight lead on Shaun Murphy ahead of their one session on Friday.

In Play Betting

I’m going to leave the second semi-final alone on Friday because they only play one session and we’re probably not really going to get a much clearer picture of how it will go in that eight frames unless Wilson keeps up his form and pulls away. I’m not convinced that will happen though so I’m happy to assess where we are there going into Saturday and instead focus on the other match for a bet on Friday.

Stuart Bingham might be feeling he missed the boat to only be 4-4 with Mark Selby when his opponent didn’t make a single 50 break in the session on Thursday but from 1-3 he will be happy just to be on terms. He looked like the player who was playing the freer of the two though and I suspect he could assume control of this semi-final in the morning session. Selby was brilliant in the first three rounds of the tournament but in Kurt Maflin and Mark Williams he was being gifted chances at will. Bingham gifted him one or two but then he found his stride and if the first session had carried on Bingham would surely have taken a lead with him. There is a lot of pressure on Selby here whereas until the winning line comes along Bingham is largely playing with freedom. Bingham has scored very well throughout the tournament and if he can put a burst of that scoring together he can win the second session and make things very interesting.
