2021 World Championship Snooker Final Day 2 – Mark Selby vs Shaun Murphy Tips and Betting Preview

The 2021 snooker world champion will be crowned on Monday when the World Championship draws to a close inside the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield with the concluding two sessions of play of a lengthy 17 day marathon.

Mark Selby will begin the final day of the tournament three frames ahead at 10-7 but with 18 the magic number he will know Shaun Murphy is not a beaten man yet. We could yet be set for a very interesting day of snooker.

Mark Selby holds a 10-7 lead going into the third session of this final but I don’t think Shaun Murphy is done yet. He was 10-6 down to Matthew Stevens when he won the title in 2015 and he only needs to go back to the semi-final for inspiration as he trailed a rampant Kyren Wilson by that score at the halfway mark in that and then powered to victory in the final two sessions. Murphy will have time to reflect on the day and he’ll know that he got sucked into playing Selby’s game on Sunday evening and I don’t expect that to happen again.

It might be that Murphy goes down in this final but if he does I expect him to go out on his sword and on his terms and that means playing all-out attacking snooker and to heck with the consequences. If he starts well he’ll put the same pressure on Selby as he did on Wilson in the previous round. Whether Selby cracks completely is another thing but Bingham did just this to Selby and won the third session 6-2 before falling into Selby’s trap in the overrun final session. I think Murphy still has a part to play in this final so his 50+ breaks line is interesting to me. He has six of them in seven winning frames. His 50+ line is 10.5 and I don’t expect him to win many frames on Monday without a 50 break given the style I expect him to adopt. I do expect him to get to 12 frames at the very least though so that line looks a little low to me, particularly if Murphy plays to the crowd and clears a table even when a frame is already won. He has another five 50s in him.
