2021 World Grand Prix Darts – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The semi-finals of the World Grand Prix takes place inside the Morningside Arena in Leicester on Friday evening when the remaining four players take to the oche to battle it out for the two spots in the final on Saturday.

We move up to the best of seven sets for these semi-finals which should allow the players to relax a little more and deliver a stronger quality of darts which should be perfect for a top evening of tungsten tossing for us watching on to enjoy.

Jonny Clayton vs Danny Noppert

The opening semi-final sees The Masters and Premier League champion Jonny Clayton looking to make it through to another ranking final when he takes on the Dutch star Danny Noppert who has really looked like he is coming of age this week.

Clayton has been in good form this week when he hasn’t let himself down with his counting. He has come past a couple of potential winners in Jose de Sousa and Krzysztof Ratajski and in the main he has dominated both opponents so he will like his chances in this semi-final. Noppert has clearly taken confidence from his win over Michael van Gerwen in the opening round and has only dropped one set on his way to this last four showdown. We should give him a lot of credit for that because often when a player beats MVG he struggles from there onwards. He has maintained his form and is a threat in this semi-final. I still expect Clayton to win it but I certainly think Noppert can lay a bit of a marker down and put up a real challenge. Even at 8/11 I like over 5.5 sets here.

Gerwyn Price vs Stephen Bunting

The second semi-final is a repeat of the World Championship semi-final as the defending champion Gerwyn Price looks to move to within a win of making a successful defence of his title when he meets Stephen Bunting, who might be out for some revenge after losing their clash at Alexandra Palace.

Both these men looked susceptible on Thursday evening. Price was very poor in his win over Dave Chisnall who failed to put him away. The world champion had the crowd very much against him there which might have attributed plenty to his poor display. Bunting was pretty ordinary on his starting double but looked good once he got into the legs against Ryan Searle so if he can tighten up on his opening hit then he would have every chance in this match. You get the impression that this will be won by the player who makes the most improvement from the quarter final. That is likely to be Price as he has more margin to come good in him but I’m very wary of the crowd going against him so I’ll just sit and watch this one without a bet.
