2021 World Series of Darts Finals – Quarter Finals Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the World Series of Darts Finals on Sunday with the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final all being played out on another bumper day of darts out in Amsterdam as we crown the latest televised title winner.

As ever with these weekend events we can have a look at the quarter finals in the afternoon but time restrictions will deny us the opportunity to look at the evening semi-finals and final. We do still have an outright bet running though so hopefully that will keep us interested into the evening.

Krzysztof Ratajski vs Niels Zonneveld

The opening quarter final of the tournament sees our outright bet taking to the stage when the Polish star Krzysztof Ratajaski takes on the surprise package of the event so far in the form of home man Niels Zonneveld.

Zonneveld has overcome the challenges of Dave Chisnall and Gary Anderson to reach the last eight and he’ll be feeling pretty good about his game, especially as he had to come through the PDPA qualifier to make it into the draw in the first place. He probably faces his toughest test here though because unlike Chisnall and Anderson, Ratajski isn’t lacking for form. He has played two very solid matches here and while one or two missed doubles could have cost him they haven’t done. The longer format is sure to help him here as well. I’ll stick with riding my outright punt in this one rather than get involved in a match where nerves might play a part.

Dimitri Van den Bergh vs Kim Huybrechts

The second match of the afternoon sees the top two Belgian players on show when World Cup teammates Dimitri Van den Bergh takes on Kim Huybrechts for the right to meet the winner of the first game in the semi-final.

Huybrechts has done very well so far this weekend. In Michael Smith and Peter Wright he has taken care of two very good operators and he’s beaten them with the minimum of fuss as well. Van den Bergh has only played one match having come into the event in the second round but he took care of Jose de Sousa in that contest and he did it in authoritative and ruthless style so both these men are playing well. I never like getting involved in these games between players who know each other well. There might be some value in Huybrechts, who has suddenly found a rich vein of form recently, but I’m happy to leave the match alone.

Jonny Clayton vs Gerwyn Price

The penultimate match of the afternoon is a repeat of the recent World Grand Prix final as the World Cup teammates Jonny Clayton takes on the world number one and defending champion Gerwyn Price for a place in the last four.

Clayton emphatically won that World Grand Prix title but that was a week where the crowd were getting to Price, which this Dutch crowd might not do. That might well mean that the world champion is able to get back to the dominance he has previously shown against his Welsh compatriot. This one could go either way anyway with the way Clayton has been performing, but as with the match above I’m reluctant to get involved in matches between good friends unless something stands out. It doesn’t here so I’ll leave this one alone too.

Michael van Gerwen vs Mervyn King

The last of the quarter finals might turn out to be the best of them as Michael van Gerwen continues his quest to win another title in front of his home fans when he takes on a Mervyn King who has had a remarkable run to the quarter final.

King has played two matches to reach this stage of the tournament, against James Wade and Madars Razma, and he is yet to lose a leg! He was playing some good darts coming into this event and has certainly maintained that. Although he wasn’t as good against Razma as he was against Wade when he averaged in excess of 115, King still averaged 98 in another demolition. That was much better than what van Gerwen averaged in his sole win over Maik Kuivenhoven, although you would expect the Dutchman to come on for the run here so to speak. I think King is ready to lay down the challenge to van Gerwen but he might well get the invitation answered in a great game of darts. This one has the potential to go the distance so the even money on over 16.5 legs looks juicy enough to me.
