2022 WGC Dell Match Play Golf – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of group action at the WGC Dell Match Play on Friday where the 64 player field gets whittled down to 16 for the knockout stage that takes place over the weekend. Some players head out on Friday knowing they can no longer qualify but for others it is a massive day.

Surprisingly given the way the fixtures in each group are structured we have just the one straight knockout clash for a place in the last 16. That comes in Group 10 where Alex Noren and Corey Conners will go at it for top spot. I’ve a couple of players in control of their own destiny in order to win their group so I’m going to go with just the one bet over the course of Friday.

Marc Leishman vs Luke List

Match tees off at 17.49 GMT

The match I like a bet in on Friday comes midway through the field when the Australian player Marc Leishman takes on the Farmers Insurance Open winner Luke List who is enjoying his best start to this tournament at the third time of asking.

Leishman is one of those players who tees off on Friday knowing that whatever happens in this match he’ll be going home once he has shaken hands at the end of it after he has suffered two pretty big beatings on the opening two days. Kevin Kisner beat him 4&3 and then Justin Thomas went one better and beat him 5&4. The concern for Leishman is that in both matches he didn’t birdie a single hole on the back nine and those are the scoring holes that are waiting to be birdied. The pressure is all on List in this match but we saw at Torrey Pines that he can cope with that. He has a good win over Justin Thomas this week already and was well in control against Kevin Kisner before the former champion put an inspired five holes together to close out a 1up win. List is hitting the ball well and this format is allowing him to get putts to the hole. He sets out knowing he has to win this match and hope Kisner loses to get into a group play-off. I expect the American to do his part of the bargain against an out of sorts Australian whose long game has been up and down all season and hasn’t been much more consistent here.
