2018-19 Sky Bet League 1 – Tuesday 22nd January Matches Betting Preview

There are two matches in a mini midweek list of fixtures in Sky Bet League 1 on Tuesday night with four sides all doing much worse than they wanted to be in action on a night where the three points will be a valuable commodity.

There is a real bunfight forming at the foot of the table and two of the sides right in amongst it play on Tuesday night. They go up against two teams who will be looking for a strong finish to the campaign to end up as high as possible.

AFC Wimbledon vs Fleetwood Town

The first match of the night sees AFC Wimbledon looking to give their survival hopes a boost when they take on a very hit and miss Fleetwood Town side down at Kingsmeadow. Wimbledon are seven points adrift of safety so a win here is vital for them.

Fleetwood just can’t find a consistent run of victories. If they can sort that out in their game then they could make a late charge for the playoffs given the quality they have in their ranks. If that is going to happen you would feel it needs to begin here. Neither of these sides are trustworthy enough to lure me in to a bet although the Cod Army might not get a better chance to launch a run than this.

Plymouth Argyle vs Walsall

The other match on the evening sees Plymouth Argyle looking for a fourth successive victory which would bring them out of the bottom four when they go up against another inconsistent side in Walsall, who themselves go looking for a second win in just a few days.

Walsall began the campaign very strong on their travels but things haven’t panned out how they would have liked in recent times so they will be hoping that their win at Gillingham on Saturday revived their form. Plymouth are four unbeaten and have won their last three and are finally showing signs of a repeat of last season where few in the league were better than them over the second part of the campaign.

I can’t deny that Plymouth don’t tempt me but Walsall have made some good additions in the transfer window already and made another on Monday when they brought in Dan Scarr from Birmingham and they might have the desired effect beyond the win at Gillingham. I’ll sit the night out and wait for better opportunities I think.
