The Super League continues on Thursday evening when another double header of action takes place in the competition as we begin to head into the second half of the campaign where the sights are starting to set on the top four and the Grand Final potential that brings.
With the news that the final table is going to be based on points percentage rather than the overall tally every game is gaining in significance as we head closer towards that November showdown at Old Trafford. Both the matches on Thursday are live on Sky Sports.
The Format
There has been a change in the format of the season. The ‘loop matches’ and Magic Weekend have bitten the dust so teams will play 20 regular season matches ahead of the playoffs. Scrums are a thing of the past for the remainder of the season. They are being replaced with a tap restart to prevent the spread of the virus. The ‘six to go’ rule that is being used in NRL is also coming into the Super League with more eyes likely to be on the game with other sports yet to get back up and running.

Hull FC vs Wakefield Trinity (18.00)
The first match of the night sees two out of form teams battling it out when Hull FC takes on Wakefield Trinity for what is now an even more valuable two points. Both teams have been stop start since the restart but get a chance to showcase their talents here.
Both these teams have run into Covid-19 issues since the restart and the other problem they both have is there are a lot of key players out for each side so predicting the outcome of this one is not easy. On the form of their win over Huddersfield a couple of outings ago you would say Hull FC are the likeliest winners but they’re not that convincing. I can’t back a Wakefield side who haven’t scored a point in their last two matches so this is an easy one to leave alone.
Castleford Tigers vs Warrington Wolves (20.15)
The second part of the double header on Thursday night is the juicy bit as two teams who will most certainly have their eye on Old Trafford meet when the Castleford Tigers take on the Warrington Wolves in what should be a cracking contest.
Warrington go into this match in rich form having won their last five matches but they have a number of players isolating for this game so that is a concern. Gareth Widdop misses out here which could affect the creativity of the Wolves. Castleford will be without Jesse Sene-Lefao after he broke the Covid-19 regulations earlier in the week but winger James Clare is back after missing the win over Salford Red Devils last time out.
That victory showed that Castleford are getting their combinations right and getting up to speed as a result. I don’t think there will be much in this one so it might be that the value lies with the Tigers. Warrington are in great touch at the minute but without being too unkind to them they haven’t beaten anything they weren’t expected to so this will be their toughest test since the restart. In an even looking match with Warrington being without a few players I’ll side with the Tigers.
