Big Matches

Inter Miami remain in front in the race for the Supporters’ Shield and they will look to maintain that position on Wednesday evening when they make the awkward looking trip to Charlotte FC. FC Cincinnati will be hoping for a slip up from Miami when they go to DC United. If Inter Miami lose and Cincinnati win then they will hit the front heading into the final third of the campaign. Over in the Western Conference, the top two don’t meet until Thursday night so Real Salt Lake have the chance to close the gap on them when they welcome Houston Dynamo to Rio Tinto Stadium.

Best of the Rest

The champions Columbus Crew have clicked into a nice groove and they will be looking to keep that going when they host Nashville SC which actually kicks off the round of matches slightly earlier than the rest. Another team who are going along nicely despite being brushed aside by the champions at the weekend are New England Revolution and they welcome Atlanta United to Gillette Stadium. New York City FC are another team who are in good nick and they’ll be expecting to pick up three points when they host CF Montreal while over in the Western Conference two sides without coaches battle it out when St Louis City SC host the San Jose Earthquakes while Chicago Fire and Philadelphia Union battle it out at Soldier Field.

Betting

I’ll go with a pair of bets over the course of the night with the first one a fairly obvious pick in the form of FC Cincinnati on the Asian lines at DC United. I took on DC United at the weekend because of how shorthanded they are right now and I am still wondering how I didn’t collect on the New York Red Bulls, even more so when you consider that DC went down a man after 20 minutes and only had four outfield players on the bench so couldn’t change much up. Cristian Dajome was the man dismissed and he’ll miss this game while Christian Benteke is also suspended here. Cincinnati have run into a few defensive issues of late but they keep a clean sheet in Dallas at the weekend which shows that they can still function without some big centre-halves. There is a chance they could have Miles Robinson back here given that USA are now out of the Copa America so that would help. Usually you would be concerned taking road teams in MLS but Cincinnati are 8-1-1 on their travels this term and with DC winless in nine this should be an away win.

The other bet that I like is for a refreshed Real Salt Lake side to get the better of the Houston Dynamo. Credit goes to the Dynamo because they are on a decent run of form but midweek trips in MLS are bad at the best of times let alone to this part of the country where we are at altitude so this is going to be a tough assignment against an RSL who have probably been chomping at the minute for the last 10 days to bounce back from their defeat to LA Galaxy, which ended a run of 16 games unbeaten. At Rio Tinto this season RSL have been flying. They are 6-1-2 at home with 20 goals in those nine matches and off the back of not playing at the weekend they should be fresh enough to extend that record against a game Houston side but one I don’t think are quite at the level of Real Salt Lake.
