Africa Cup of Nations 2021 – Wednesday 19th January Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

One more group comes to a close at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament on Wednesday and it is the big one of Group D where all eyes will be on Egypt to see if they can make progress into the knockout stages of the competition.

Nigeria are the other powerhouse on show on Wednesday evening but they are already through to the knockout stage so the night is all about the other three teams and which ones can navigate their path through.

Where to watch

The matches will be shown in full on the Sky Sports Premier League and the Sky Sports Mix channels with the brief build-ups beginning at 6.55pm and the games kicking off at 7pm.

Egypt vs Sudan (19.00)

All eyes will be on this game on Wednesday to see if Egypt can get the point that they need to make it through to the knockout stages. They take on a Sudan team who aren’t out of the competition yet but who must win to make it through.

That might well suit Egypt because Sudan are going to have to come out and play a bit more expansive than a team of their stature might normally like to do. Egypt have been pretty ordinary in the competition so far but if you look at their squad, there has to be too much in it to not be better than what they have shown so far and you would think they would want a convincing performance to take into the knockout stages of the competition with them. Although a point will do Egypt, even when Sudan haven’t had to force the pace so far in this competition they have been opened up at will and I fully expect Egypt to take advantage of the Sudanese need to win. This should be a much more open game than either of the first two Egypt were involved in and as such I like over 2.25 goals in this one.

Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria (19.00)

The other match in the group is all about Guinea-Bissau really as their opponents Nigeria are already through and we already know they have won the section and will face a third placed team in the next stage. A Guinea-Bissau win here could see them through.

I would imagine the first port of call when betting on this match is the Nigeria team. You would imagine this is an ideal chance to make a few changes and get some of the fringe players involved and those who are on a booking to be rested to ensure they are available in the next round. That might open up the door to success for Guinea-Bissau, although given that they haven’t scored a goal in the competition yet and missed a golden chance from 12 yards against Sudan in their opener, whether they are good enough to take advantage of that is a whole different story. I suspect they might not be but either way I’m happy to leave this one alone.
