The knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations continues on Sunday when two more round of 16 matches take place on a day where we will confirm the first half of the quarter finals of a tournament which is bubbling to the boil nicely.
Sunday will see the host nation Morocco looking to make progress while a couple of dark horses will also be on show on a day that has a lot to live up to after a dramatic first day in the knockout stages on Saturday.
Morocco vs Tanzania (16.00 – 4seven)
The first of the two matches on the day sees the host nation Morocco taking on the fairytale story of the competition so far in Tanzania in a match the World Cup semi-finalists will be pretty warm favourites to come out on top in.
Tanzania have already gone beyond where they were expected to go in this tournament but they are yet to win a game and you would imagine that they get found out here and that Morocco dump them out in some style. These two met during the World Cup qualifying campaign which recently ended and Morocco won both matches 2-0 and it wouldn’t be a surprise were they to win this one in a similar fashion. I do expect a gulf in class here but the question is whether Morocco want to push it or save themselves for what is likely to be an awkward quarter final. You would imagine they will go down the route of the latter so there isn’t really anything I fancy here. I’d have added under 3.5 goals to a Morocco win but the price isn’t great so I’ll leave this one alone.

South Africa vs Cameroon (19.00 – 4seven)
The better looking of the two matches comes along in the second game where a spirited South Africa side will look to end the run of a Cameroon outfit who are all in at this tournament having failed to qualify for the World Cup this summer.
South Africa have qualified for that tournament so in a way this is about building towards that and if they can knock off a reputable Cameroon side then they would be going the right way about things. Cameroon have looked better than might have been expected in this tournament so far though. They came through a dangerous group without losing and they are rightfully the favourites for this one but South Africa have goals in them, although it has to be said they looked quite shaky defensively at times in the group, especially against a limited Zimbabwe side so this one might buck the trend of low scoring knockout matches in this event. You can get a fair price on over 2 goals in this one and with South Africa a little more open than some sides in this part of the world but with a lethal marksman in Lyle Foster, I’ll side with the over here knowing we get a push if there are just two goals. In the six group matches these two have played the over cashed three teams and pushed on another occasion so I’ll side with goals here.
