The first round concludes and the second round gets underway at the Western & Southern Open at the ATP Cincinnati event on Tuesday as the latest Masters 1000 event begins to build up a head of steam in Ohio.
We saw some fantastic tennis on the second day of action on Monday and now that the bigger names come to the party over the course of Tuesday there is nothing to suggest we won’t see much more of the same.
Center Court
As with Monday, we have two matches in the Center Court on Tuesday with the first of those coming in the final match of the day session. That means we have two women’s matches before we see the men in action but when we do get going it will be the in form Nick Kyrgios looking to make it through. He meets Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The second men’s match on the main court comes in the night session. We have to wait for the high profile WTA match to finish first but when that is done the number one seed Daniil Medvedev will take on Botic van de Zandschulp for a place in the last 16.
Grandstand
We have three matches in the men’s draw on Tuesday over on the Grandstand court. The first of those sees Jannik Sinner getting his tournament underway when he takes on the qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis before the Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz opens up his campaign as he meets the improving Argentine player Sebastian Baez. Those two matches take place in the day session and the other one comes in the night session which is a second round clash between Mackenzie McDonald and the exciting Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz.

Court 3
Three first round matches make up the men’s action over on Court 3 on Tuesday and we begin with two American players looking to thrill the home crowds when Tommy Paul takes on Jenson Brooksby in a clash which could easily turn into a right old battle. When they are done two men more happier on a clay court meet as Albert Ramos-Vinolas takes on Fabio Fognini before the final men’s match on this part of the grounds sees the Montreal champion of last week, Pablo Carreno Busta, taking on Miomir Kecmanovic.
Best of the Rest
There are plenty of other players to watch around the grounds for those attending the tournament on Tuesday or for us who have access to all the streams to enjoy on what is a busy day in the men’s draw. Among the players to watch on the outside courts are Lorenzo Sonego, Dan Evans, Diego Schwartzman and the Croatian pair of Borna Coric and Marin Cilic who are all in first or second round action.
Betting
Tommy Paul is enjoying a decent season and having had a good few weeks on the grass he arrives here off the back of a quarter final finish at the Montreal Masters event last week, a tournament in which he saw off the explosive Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz and Marin Cilic in what has to be considered a decent week for the American. He now takes on Jenson Brooksby who made it to the final in Atlanta recently but who looked like he was off the pace physically last week.
Brooksby needed medical attention in his defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut in Montreal which suggests he isn’t firing on all cylinders and his game needs him to be at peak physical levels to produce his best. The crowd might inspire something out of him for a set or so but the extra power that Paul possesses as well as the confidence of winning some matches recently makes me think that he is the one to be on in this American battle.
