The BNP Paribas Open continues on Friday when the second round of the tournament begins which means that for the first time in the ATP Indian Wells event this year the seeded players will compete in a Masters 1000 competition.
That immediately elevates the profile of the competition and the quality should rise too with so many top players taking to the Indian Wells courts for the first time this week and there are some decent matches on the schedule.
Stadium 1
Only one of those matches is on Stadium 1 in the day session though and it is the opening match of the day as the number one seed Alexander Zverev will look to justify his lofty billing. He takes on Tallon Griekspoor who was seeded for a number of these Masters 1000 events last year and could be dangerous off of that. The other men’s match comes in the night session where the man who has lost in the final in the last two years in Daniil Medvedev takes on Yunchaokete Bu for a spot in the last 32 of the tournament.
Stadium 2
In total there will be four men’s matches on show over on Stadium 2 with the conclusion of the first round match between Mariano Navone and Learner Tien getting things up and running before we enter the second round with Casper Ruud taking on Marcos Giron. The day session then concludes with the Dubai champion Stefanos Tsitsipas on the second stage when he takes on the Brazilian player Thiago Seyboth Wild before the final men’s match on this court rounds off the night session as the home star Frances Tiafoe takes on the qualifier Damir Dzumhur.

Stadium 3
Another three matches from the ATP draw come along over on Stadium 3 where two home players will get the action underway when Tommy Paul meets the wildcard Tristan Boyer. A women’s match follows them but then we have the men back on show when Matteo Berrettini will face off against Christopher O’Connell before the last of the men’s matches sees the exciting Holger Rune looking to make it through when he takes on the French player Corentin Moutet in what could be an entertaining conclusion to the ATP action on this court.
Best of the Rest
There are plenty of other matches on the outside courts for those with a ground pass or streams of all the courts to enjoy with seeds in each of them. Two French seeds will look to make it through on Stadium 4 and 5 when Arthur Fils and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard are on show respectively. Alexei Popyrin and Lorenzo Musetti are two other seeds out on Stadium 5 while Ugo Humbert, Jiri Lehecka and Alex Michelsen all get their campaigns underway on Stadium 6 along with Tomas Machac.
Betting
Three bets stand out to me on Friday with the first of them for Corentin Moutet to get the better of Holger Rune. Rune has been in the wars a bit this year and was one of many to succumb to food poisoning in Acapulco recently and he could be vulnerable to a Moutet who has beaten Rune three times out of three in their career. There is clearly something about the Frenchman that gets the back up of the Dane and he struggles to deal with what comes from the other side of the net. Rune hasn’t offered much since Melbourne and Moutet probably has nothing to lose and he feels overpriced here.
Another one who is definitely overpriced is Gabriel Diallo for his match with Arthur Fils, who has lost his way a little bit with a couple of disappointing results. He has never really cracked the big time events anyway and Diallo could be in line to take advantage of that. The Canadian is probably playing with the house money having been given a second chance as a lucky loser in this tournament and he has already taken advantage of that by dumping Zhizhen Zhang out in the first round. These two met in the US Open last year and Diallo won and he brings enough form into this match for me to chance him against a Fils who might just be overrated a touch.
The last bet is the man who opened up 2025 by making the Auckland final in Zizou Bergs who takes on an Alexei Popyrin who has had a bit of a tough start to 2025. Injury ruled him out of the Australian part of the campaign in the main and things haven’t gone much better for him since then. He has played six matches this season and only won one of them which is a concern. He was always likely to be up against it here anyway when these slower conditions wouldn’t suit him but when you put the form into the mix then Popyrin has to be taken on here. Bergs has had some solid performances since Auckland and will be better suited by these conditions so he has to be taken here.
