ATP Miami Open Tennis 2022 – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The semi-finals of the ATP Miami Open will both be played out on what looks like being a wonderful day and evening of tennis in Florida as we confirm which two men will battle it out for the second Masters 1000 title of the season on Sunday.

We have two top 10 players who have made it through to this stage as well as a couple of the brighter talents of the future so we should be in for a couple of competitive semi-finals as a spot in the final is up for grabs.

Day Session

Francisco Cerundolo vs Casper Ruud

The opening semi-final sees two men who will be looking to make it into a first Masters 1000 final battling it out when the Argentine youngster Francisco Cerundolo takes on the Norwegian ace Casper Ruud.

Cerundolo has won five matches to make it to this stage of the competition but he has had the fortune of two of his opponents withdrawing mid-match through injury against him so whether he is fully deserving of his place in this semi-final is open to debate. His best win so far has been against Gael Monfils but even he has his own off-court issues with the attention on external family in Ukraine. Ruud has no such problems. He is here by right having taken care of Cam Norrie and Alexander Zverev in the last two rounds and he is a warm favourite as a result of that. Ruud had to come through a three-setter against the German so he’s likely to be the more jaded of the two but he’s playing the better tennis and right now is the better player. He’s an emphatic favourite and while I wouldn’t be surprised if he covers it, there just isn’t much value in this match.

Night Session

Hubert Hurkacz vs Carlos Alcaraz

The second semi-final comes in the night session and looks like being the pick of the matches as Hubert Hurkacz bids to take his title defence down to the last match when he takes on the Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz who is in a second Masters 1000 semi-final in as many tournaments.

Hurkacz showed in beating Daniil Medvedev on Thursday that he isn’t going to let go of his title without a fight while Alcaraz proved that he has plenty of bottle in coming through an epic against Miomir Kecmanovic deep into the Thursday evening. A lack of recovery time could be an issue for the Spaniard in this one but even if it isn’t I expect the defending champion to be a stiff challenge for him. Hurkacz has had to go to a deciding set to see off Aslan Karatsev in an earlier round but has cruised through aside from that. These two are playing some really good tennis and if he has recovered I fancy Alcaraz will win here but I don’t see either man winning without there having been more than 22.5 games in the process.
