ATP Miami Open Tennis 2023 – Day 9 Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the ATP Miami tournament come to a close on Thursday and after the rain on Wednesday we have a busier schedule than expected, with three matches taking place around the grounds at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The rain has meant that we have the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev looking for spots in the final over the course of the two sessions on Thursday and means that we should have another great day of tennis. We’ve already previewed the Alcaraz match in our day eight preview and we’ll cover the other two here.

Christopher Eubanks vs Daniil Medvedev

The one quarter final from the bottom half of the draw to be played out on the Stadium court sees the Indian Wells finalist Daniil Medvedev continuing his quest to go one better here when he takes on a Christopher Eubanks who will be competing in his first Masters 1000 last eight clash.

Eubanks has played some good stuff this week but there is a feeling that the draw has opened up for him a little. To be fair you could argue that he deserved that to be the case because he came through qualifying to get into this tournament. The only seed he has faced this week has been Borna Coric and he is struggling for form but the man in the other corner is yet to really be challenged either. Medvedev received a walkover in the third round and the two matches he has played have both been against players ranked outside the top 75 in the world. He now faces the lowest ranked opponent of the lot and given the way he has dealt with the first two challenges you would expect much more of the same from the Russian. When you add into the mix that as well as the gulf in ability between the two Eubanks is new to this stage of a Masters 1000 event and it all points to a comfortable Medvedev win. Under 19.5 games gives us plenty of time for Medvedev to get the job done.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Karen Khachanov

The other quarter final in the bottom half of the draw has been moved to the Grandstand court to fit into the schedule of the week and it will see Francisco Cerundolo looking to make the last four for the second time in succession when he meets Karen Khachanov.

Cerundolo has hit the ball quite sweetly this week in among the rain showers but there was a point where Lorenzo Sonego was on top of him in the previous round and Khachanov is a much cleaner and harder hitter of the ball than the Italian and in better form overall. Cerundolo does seem to love it here in Miami so that might raise his chances of winning this match by a few percent but I’ve liked Khachanov since that run to the semi-final of the US Open. He followed it up with a run to the same stage in Australia so he is tuned into winning big quarter finals and that experience might just be the difference here. I hope it is because I’m on the Russian outright and he has every chance of going all the way from here if he comes through this one. I’m happy to let that outright bet ride rather than get involved in this one.
