ATP Miami Open Tennis 2023 – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

It is semi-final day at the ATP Miami Open on Friday with both matches being played across the two sessions of play at the Hard Rock Stadium. By the end of the day we will know which two players will compete in the final of the second Masters 1000 event on Sunday.

We have the two men who recently competed in the Indian Wells final looking to set up a repeat showdown in Miami but two very competent and dangerous challengers will be looking to deny that from happening.

Daniil Medvedev vs Karen Khachanov

Two Russians will meet in the opening semi-final of the competition when the player of the season so far, Daniil Medvedev, takes on a Karen Khachanov who is much improved over the last six months or so and has reached two Grand Slam semi-finals in that time.

Medvedev continued to cruise through the draw in the quarter final when he took care of Christopher Eubanks but there were one or two sloppy games from him in that match which might offer Khachanov some belief that he can get through to what would be a second Masters 1000 final. The numbers will suggest that Khachanov is up against it here but I’m not sure he has played as well as he has done over the last six months and he has gained a lot of big match experience in that time. You would imagine Medvedev will begin to feel the heat of this incredible run he has been on so far in 2023 so I’m not convinced this will be as one-sided as the odds suggest. I hope it isn’t because Khachanov is my outright bet and I’m hoping he gets over the line. There isn’t anything I fancy in this so I’ll sit back and cheer Khachanov on.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner

The more anticipated semi-final of the two on Friday evening is the second one which comes along in the night session and sees the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz taking on his fellow young star Jannik Sinner in what promises to be a great encounter.

Generally when these two meet they produce tight matches. They had that epic at the US Open which went all the way and while Alcaraz won in straight sets when the two met in Indian Wells, the first set could have gone either way having gone to a tiebreak. I suspect Sinner is in better touch here. The humid conditions in Miami allow his powerful groundstrokes to get through the court much better than the sluggish conditions in Indian Wells so I expect the Italian to really lay it down to the Spaniard in this match, especially if he serves well. I hope that is the case because I am also on Sinner outright and this time I do think he can cause the upset but the better bet in this one is to take over 21.5 games. It has been covered in every match these two have played against each other and conditions should allow both to play their best tennis. A tight contest is expected here.

Tips

Back C.Alcaraz vs J.Sinner – Over 21.5 games for a 3/10 stake at 1.80 with William Hill
