Australia vs India – 3rd T20 Betting Preview

The first series of the Indian tour of Australia will conclude on Sunday when Australia and India meet in the third and final T20 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After the washout on Friday, Australia take a 1-0 lead into this last match.

Australia know that if they win this match they will lay something of a marker down for the matches to come by winning this series 2-0 but if India can put it all together then they will secure a share of the spoils to give them confidence heading into the Tests.

Australia

I guess we can’t really take too much out of the bit of cricket we saw in the second game but you would think that it would have been difficult for Australia to defend what looked a grossly under par total. We will never know but it does highlight the issue that the home side have had for some time in this format of the game. It has been a while since they have put a complete innings together.

They were given the benefit of the doubt when they struggled with the willow in the UAE but there can be no excuses in home conditions and their troubles have gone on for too long. Even the absence of their two best players can start to be overlooked because they have been missing for nine months now. Such poor dig with the bat will put pressure on their bowlers and eventually they will cave in.

India

I would imagine India will be so frustrated heading into this final match. They were shafted by the DLS system in the first match and then they were well on course to have a total that was gettable to go at in the second match in Melbourne on Friday. The weather is set to be much kinder in this match so they should have the chance to prove their worth here.

We’ve not really seen much of the Indian batting so we can’t really judge it too much but we know the personnel they have in their top order that they are going to be very tough to beat in conditions which should suit them. This might be a nothing T20 series in the overall scheme of things but you fancy India’s performances over the next two months could hinge on the result here.

Team News

There are no indications that Australia are going to make any changes to their side for this final match. D’Arcy Short is bang out of form so unless they move Chris Lynn up to open and bring a middle order player in there isn’t a lot they can do.

India must surely be thinking about bringing Yuzvendra Chahal into the side although to be fair to Khaleel Ahmed he did nothing wrong in the previous match. Given that, India could decide to be unchanged here.

Betting

I’m not normally one for taking short prices in this format of the game but at times you have to make an exception for all rules and I’m happy to do so here by backing India. Whenever I do go with short prices there needs to be plenty in my favour and I think that is the case in this contest.

Whenever India head to Australia I always think their best chance of winning is at Sydney where the wicket takes spin and conditions are more what they are used to. Given that they have contained Australia fairly well elsewhere I see no reason why they won’t do likewise here. Australia have struggled against spin for too long and that is what they’ll get here. I’m with India.
