Australia will go in search of a series whitewash and an incredible eighth ODI victory in a row on Sunday when they take on Pakistan for the fifth and final time in Dubai. Australia already lead the series 4-0 and in their final match before hitting England for the World Cup they are unlikely to let up.
Pakistan were always using this series to try things out but you would think they would want something to take from their efforts across the piece and this is their final chance to get it and save a bit of pride.
Australia
The turnaround in the fortunes of this Australia ODI series has been quite remarkable in recent times. They departed for this Asian tour looking like a side who were not up to modern standards and stuck in the past in terms of their approach but they have won their last seven ODIs and are starting to look like a team who can not only give a competitive defence of their World Cup title, but also possibly retain it, which seems incredible.
When you then factor in all the players they are missing at the minute, some of whom could be back for the World Cup, then this suddenly becomes a very strong looking Australian unit. Their task now is to continue plundering the runs as you would expect the World Cup to be a high scoring one with the way England play. If they put up the runs we know they have the quality with the ball.
Pakistan
I guess we can’t read too much into Pakistan’s World Cup chances based on this series because they have near enough sacked it off right from the start but if we are taking anything from it then it would be a clear lack of depth in the key areas which will be a concern to Mickey Arthur and his coaches. While it is largely a second string bowling attack on show here they have been very disappointing and offered very little.
To give Pakistan their due, they have had plenty of effort with the bat. They haven’t always had the required quality but if anyone is going to force their way into their World Cup plans then you would think that it will be a batsman. It would be nice for the morale of anyone who does end up going to England if they can win this match.
Team News
Australia didn’t really do a huge amount of tinkering in the previous match which makes you wonder if they are keeping a settled unit together now. If they are then we should probably expect minimal changes to the side, if any at all.
As ever it is hard to second guess what Pakistan are going to do in this match in terms of their team selection. They gave their best showing of the series in the previous match so I guess it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if they are unchanged too.

Betting
I mentioned in the previous match how Glenn Maxwell tends to work his way into a series but when he is established in it he goes off and produces fireworks and that is exactly what we got from him on Friday and I’m expecting much the same from him here on a pitch which as I said ahead of match four, suits him nicely.
In that match he smashed 98 off just 82 balls and threw in a catch for good measure to finish with a total of 108pts in performance terms. That followed up a 91pt tally in the third game in Abu Dhabi so Maxwell is going pretty well. He didn’t take a wicket in the last game so there is even more scoring potential at his disposal so I’m a little surprised we can get him on a performance line of just 42.5 but I’m happy to play the over once again.

WON – Back G.Maxwell’s Performance – Over 42.5pts for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with Betway
