Australian Open Tennis 2025 – Day 10 Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the Australian Open get underway in Melbourne on Tuesday on a day where a number of star players grace the Rod Laver Arena looking to book their spot in the last four of the opening Grand Slam of the season.

All eight players who have made it through to the action on Tuesday are seeded with all but one of them in the top 12 seeds in their respective draws so throughout the day and into the evening the quality should be very high.

Day Session

Coco Gauff vs Paula Badosa

The opening quarter final of the tournament sees the former US Open champion Coco Gauff looking to make it through to the semi-final in Melbourne for the second year in succession when she faces the Spanish star Paula Badosa.

These two both look to be in decent form with each of them only dropping one set on their way to this quarter final. Matches between the two tend to be fairly tight too so this should be a cracking start to the last eight in Melbourne. These two have met on six previous occasions and are 3-3 in their career with the big set possibly being that Badosa has won a set in five of those six matches. The other thing to note is Badosa has won all three of her wins in straight sets which suggests that when she is in form she can rush Gauff and get the better of her. When you consider how well the two are playing we should expect this to be close and so the even money on Badosa to win a set feels big, particularly when it has landed in five of her six previous meetings. Gauff has just dropped a set to a similarly established Belinda Bencic and I think she can lose another one here whether she wins or loses.

Tommy Paul vs Alexander Zverev

The men’s match in the day session sees the number two seed Alexander Zverev looking to make it into the last four for the second year in a row when he takes on a man in Tommy Paul who was in the semi-final here the year before.

Zverev is another player who has made it to the quarter final for the loss of just one set whereas Paul had his struggles earlier in the competition but since he dropped the first set to Kei Nishikori in the second round, he has won nine straight sets and has only dropped nine games in them so he has suddenly found a real groove. He hasn’t met a seed yet so he goes massively up in class here but he has won both previous matches against Zverev. That set that the German lost was in the last round and that was the only time he has met a seeded player so that will give Paul a little more belief. I hope it does anyway as I’m on him outright and I wouldn’t mind him getting to the semi-final where he can play for a payout for me. I’ll use that outright bet as my interest in this one.

Night Session

Aryna Sabalenka vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

The defending champion opens up the night session on Tuesday when Aryna Sabalenka looks to reach a third straight semi-final when she goes up against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who has played in seven previous Grand Slam quarter finals and is yet to reach the semi-final of one of them.

That in itself would suggest that Sabalenka is the worthy favourite here before we even worry about rankings and current form. She knows how to come through these quarter finals whereas Pavlyuchenkova has a mental issue to overcome. The other problem the Russian has is that Sabalenka has taken apart all challenges this week without dropping a set. Pavlyuchenkova does actually have a 2-1 winning record against Sabalenka but their last meeting was in the French Open in 2021 and the Belarusian is a different proposition entirely right now. I don’t see an upset here but I respect Pavlyuchenkova and how well she has played this week to not take her on via the handicaps or anything. I’ll leave this one alone.

Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz

We save the best for last on Tuesday as the 10-time winner of this tournament, Novak Djokovic, takes on one of the two superstars to have emerged on the scene in the form of Carlos Alcaraz in what is a repeat of the Wimbledon final from last year.

Alcaraz dominated Djokovic on that occasion and he’ll be looking to do that again here. If you include an exhibition at the end of 2023 these two have played eight matches and are locked at 4-4 but it is Djokovic who has won both of their competitive meetings on a hard court and he won their most recent battle which was in the final of the Olympics but they were all the best of three sets and the question is, having lost to the Spaniard in their last two Grand Slam matches, whether he can get the better of the younger man over five sets. Djokovic dropped a set in each of his opening two matches and while he has beaten the two Czech stars Tomas Machac and Jiri Lehecka in straight sets since then, Alcaraz is very much an upgrade on them. Alcaraz has only dropped one set in this tournament and won’t have minded Jack Draper pulling out after two sets in the last round to keep him nice and fresh. Djokovic is getting better as the tournament goes on and Alcaraz has motivation to win this for the first time. This one is beautifully set up for an epic occasion but it is one I’ll enjoy watching without a bet rather than risk something.
