Bangladesh vs Australia – 2nd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

The T20 series between Bangladesh and Australia comes thick and fast, so much so that the second game takes place in Dhaka less than 24 hours after the first game finished which makes for a tough ask with such a short turnaround.

Bangladesh drew first blood in the series on Tuesday and they will be looking to go two up with three to play on Wednesday. Australia will be out to level up the series so that they can make a better fist of things over the last three games than they did in the Caribbean recently.

Bangladesh

There was always a sense that the conditions in this series would suit Bangladesh, and that is exactly how it played out in that first game but it is fine having the conditions in your favour, you still have to make the most of them and play them to the full and that is exactly what Bangladesh did. To be fair, it wasn’t the perfect performance from them but for a first match in a series especially coming here from completely different pitches in Zimbabwe, it was a more than acceptable effort.

Moving forward both in this series and the World T20 which is coming fast on the horizon, Bangladesh would like a few more runs, but they will come when they have all their senior players available. Given that they are without three of their better batsmen they did well to get to the score that they did. They are always going to be hard to get away with the ball in these conditions so even a par score keeps them in the game.

Australia

Everybody knew the issues that would face Australia in this series and they jumped out in neon lights at them in the opening match. It seems that there is just nothing the Australians can do to be able to play spin. Spin killed them in the Caribbean recently and it did for them again in the opening match of this series. That spin is only going to get harder to face for the remaining four matches as the pitches get used and start to slow up.

The dismal batting against spin in the first game will have frustrated their bowlers because they did well to restrict Bangladesh to a total that even mere competency against spin should have seen Australia chase it down with a bit in hand. You would think by now Australia would be learning a way to do something against spin but it isn’t happening. If anything they are getting worse at playing it and that is saying something. If that doesn’t change this will be a long week for Australia.

Team News

With the amount of players they are missing and given the way they played in the opening match you would expect Bangladesh to go in with the same XI which won the first game for them unless someone hasn’t come out of the opener as fresh as they would like.

Australia probably need to make changes to their side for this match but their options for doing so and making a significant difference are a little thin on the ground. It might be that they just reshuffle their batting order once again.

Betting

I expected a low scoring affair in the first game and that is exactly what we got and I don’t really see a reason why this one is going to be anything different. I say that because we’re going to be on the same pitch so soon after the previous match so it isn’t going to play any easier. If anything it is going to play a whole lot tougher which is going to make scoring runs harder for both sides not just Australia. Therefore I’m expecting a low scoring game again.

The runs line has slid down to 296.5 but I still don’t think that is low enough. Even if one team does bat well here and reaches 150, something that I find hard to believe will happen anyway, it doesn’t mean that the other team is going to. I think more likely scores will max out at around the 140 mark, especially if Australia bat first because they could easily be caught looking for too many runs and ended up in a heap as happened a few times in the West Indies. All things being equal I expect another low scoring affair here.
