Bangladesh vs West Indies – 3rd ODI Tips and Betting Preview

The ODI series between Bangladesh and West Indies concludes on Monday when the two sides head to Chattogram for the third and final match of the series. Bangladesh have already won the series but there is still enough on the line here.

Bangladesh will be going for a series whitewash here but there is a Test series which follows so West Indies will be looking for some confidence to take into those. There is also the World Cup qualifying series points at stake so both teams will be eager to win here.

Bangladesh

You wouldn’t say that either match has seen a perfect performance from Bangladesh so far but the truth of the matter is they haven’t needed to be anywhere near that level to get the job done. They are in a good position that they have 20 points in the World Cup qualifying competition without being anywhere near their best and if they pick up another 10 for the win here, regardless of how well they play, they will already be in a good early position to ensure they will qualify for the main event without having to go to the qualifiers.

The positive for the Bangladesh side is how well they have bowled in the series so far. They have bowled West Indies out for less than 150 in both matches which is an excellent effort even in these conditions. Where they have been found wanting a touch is with their top order who haven’t really offered much apart from Tamim Iqbal. Chasing small totals they have lost wickets so the concern is what they will be able to do should West Indies suddenly put up a competitive score.

West Indies

There were excuses for a poor performance in the opening match from West Indies but there were none for the second match other than they have a largely second string side out here. That is a fact but even then the players that they have with them should be improving with each match they play at the level. That didn’t really happen for the Caribbean men in the last game and they have one last chance to prove themselves in this game.

To be fair to the West Indies bowlers they have been playing some very good cricket. They have got some early wickets despite not defending anything like a competitive score so if their batsmen can show the patience and the technique to get themselves in and push on to a meaningful total then there is every chance the tourists could salvage something from the series. They certainly need a much better overall showing than what we’ve seen from them thus far.

Team News

You can never truly tell whether a side will go full change when they have a series won or if they keep an ounce of continuity. The President of Bangladesh cricket has suggested the points are important in the World Cup race which suggest changes could be kept to a minimum.

I always think the touring side are more likely to make changes in this situation, especially in the present climate when you are asking players to quarantine and live in a bubble. That means Keon Harding and Jahmar Hamilton could make their ODI debuts.

Betting

I took West Indies to hit the most sixes in the previous game and they won the sixes battle 2-1. That one was the only six that Bangladesh have hit in the series to date and as I suggested in that previous game that doesn’t surprise me because they are not the biggest hitting side in the world, especially against an attack of this nature. Regardless of the situation you tend to find the men from the Caribbean can’t help but swing the bat and actually it can be a decent way to relieve pressure.

I’m happy to take the same bet again. The price has come into even money but I still think that is bigger than it should be. West Indies don’t really have a lot to lose here so there might be even more swinging of the bat and if they can send Rovman Powell up the order a bit to make the most of his form than you would imagine we will see West Indies clear these ropes a few times. The same can’t really be said for Bangladesh so I like West Indies most sixes here.
