Barclays Premier League – Newcastle vs Man City Betting Preview

The Premier League action continues throughout the week and on Tuesday night we’ve another one of those matches which will have big implications on the season as a whole and the future of the league when Newcastle host Man City in front of the Sky cameras at St James’ Park.

Newcastle

Newcastle gave themselves a lifeline in their fight against relegation on Saturday when they saw off Swansea and if they win here they will move out of the bottom three and there is no bigger incentive for a football club than that.

There were signs in that win over Swansea that suggests that Rafa Benitez has got his squad much more organised and up for the fight and at this stage of the season that is part of the battle. Their relegation or survival won’t be decided on this match but it is a free shot to give themselves every chance getting back in the mix and of escaping the drop.

Man City

After a disappointing run in February, City are back on a rich run of form which is undoubtedly helped by their progression in Europe. They can move seven points clear of Man Utd in the race for the Champions League next season if they win this match and just as importantly they will keep Arsenal at arm’s length in the race for third to enter the group stage automatically.

City’s win at Chelsea at the weekend was that of a side who have their mojo and belief back and on the back of that I’m expecting them to finish the season very strongly both in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Team news

Newcastle are likely to remain without captain Fabricio Coloccini who is injured and Daryl Janmaat is likely to miss out as well so it might be that they are unchanged from the win over Swansea at the weekend.

City could have Vincent Kompany and Raheem Sterling back for this match and if that is the case both could well go straight back into the starting line up although Kompany is more likely to settle for a place on the bench ahead of next week’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Betting

Some matches you have to be a bit of a psychic to know how they are going to play out but that isn’t so much the case with this one. Both sides’ need for points should ensure we get an open game and if there is an early goal I’m expecting it to kick right off.

City are a little short for my liking. Gun to my head I’d back them to win but there is absolutely no value in them whatsoever but Newcastle are in the one swallow doesn’t make a summer stage of the season. I’d need to see more from them to be convinced they are worth backing.

In terms of a bet the way the match is set up for both sides I’m expecting to see goals here. Newcastle have to get something from this game while City could do with something too so both have a need to get on the front foot and attack which should lead to goals.

City have a magnificent record over Newcastle and they could easily cover this goal line on their own but I don’t think they will need to. I think Newcastle might help them out with a goal or two so over 2.75 goals looks well worth backing here.
