Barclays Premier League – Sunday 1st May Matches Betting Preview

There are three matches in the Premier League on Sunday and for the first time this season Leicester City have the chance to seal a historic title, capping one of the most remarkable fairy tales in sport not just football. A win at Old Trafford against Manchester United will seal the league for Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Before that match Swansea host Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium while after the Leicester match the attention switches to St Mary’s where Southampton host Man City in another big match on what looks a cracking day of action.

Swansea vs Liverpool

Liverpool go into this match as the form horse but you’ve got to think their focus is going to be elsewhere here. I’ve been burnt with that line of thinking about Liverpool before but the fuss Jurgen Klopp has made about the kick off time suggests to me I’m going to be right about their focus here.

Even allowing for that Swansea will need a massive improvement on the woeful effort they put up against Leicester last weekend but they are a proud club and one who generally go well on their own patch so that is a couple of positives for them going into this match.

If I’m honest I don’t have a strong feel about this match either way but Liverpool surely have to rest their stars ahead of Thursday night. Maybe if they were in a better position in that tie they wouldn’t need to but situations force the hand at times.

The Europa League is now Liverpool’s sole chance of getting back into the Champions League so I would be surprised to see many stars in this game. That should give Swansea the chance to win this match and I think they are worth chancing to do so.

Man Utd vs Leicester

Is this the time? It very well could be. I don’t think it is a case of will Leicester win the league anymore the question now is when and I’m sure they’ll be fired up to win it here rather than be handed the title were Tottenham not to win on Monday night.

We shouldn’t forget that this is just as big a match for Man Utd as it is for Leicester, arguably even bigger for them because they dropped five points behind Man City in the race for the Champions League last week and so this is must win territory if they are to keep those hopes alive.

That adds a really nice complexion to this match and it is one which might clam up the United side. We know traditionally they don’t score many goals early on at Old Trafford at the minute and Leicester have flown out of the traps in recent times.

With this day being what it is I think a fast start is the least we can expect from Ranieri’s men and given that they’ve been to Tottenham and Man City and won this season we know the big trips don’t faze them. I think at the prices there is mileage in adding Leicester to the Swansea bet in the hope one of them get the job done. If they do we’ll be in profit. If both do then happy days.

Southampton vs Man City

The great matches just keep on coming on Sunday and this is another one as a solid Southampton side host an in form Man City team. I guess the first thing to try and ascertain is how strong City will go here. They’ve an absolutely massive match on Wednesday night and it makes no sense now they have a bit of a buffer over United to risk anyone they don’t want to.

Whether City do rest players remains to be seen and the same can be said about whether Southampton are strong enough mentally with nothing to play for to take advantage of any personnel changes but if they are this will be a good game.

I can’t quite commit to a bet here though so I’ll just take the two bets from earlier in the day although I wouldn’t put anyone off adding Southampton in to make a heavy priced treble.
