Belgian Darts Open 2023 – Last 16 Tips and Betting Preview

The final day of the Belgian Darts Open takes place on Sunday when the tournament draws to a close over the course of two sessions of play with the last 16 in the afternoon and the remainder of the event in the evening.

We saw a few shocks and surprises on Saturday but in the main the bigger players have made it through to Sunday. Time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview the evening session but we’ll go through the last 16 here.

First Four Matches

We get underway on Sunday with the number one seed Luke Humphries in action. He had to survive a match dart on Saturday and will be hoping to have it slightly easier here when he takes on the WDF top ranked player Andy Baetens who is having a good weekend so far. When they are done we will have a repeat of the last 16 encounter from last weekend where Nathan Aspinall meets Danny Noppert. The third match of the afternoon will see Damon Heta going up against Jonny Clayton and then we head to the halfway mark of the afternoon with Dirk van Duijvenbode taking on Matt Campbell.

Later Four Matches

We come out of the interval with a cracking contest as the defending champion Dave Chisnall continues his title defence when he takes on the rising star that is Josh Rock. The world champion Michael Smith is next onto the stage to take on a Gabriel Clemens who played tremendously from 2-5 against Peter Wright in the previous round. Michael van Gerwen came through a deciding leg on Saturday and his reward for doing so is a crack at Martin Schindler in the final game of the afternoon while the best might be saved for last as Rob Cross rounds off the session when he takes on Gary Anderson.

Betting

Dave Chisnall met Josh Rock at this stage of the European Tour event last week and beat him 6-3 which was the fifth successive win he has picked up against the Northern Irish youngster. To be fair, Rock took that defeat out on Chris Dobey on Saturday evening when he averaged 107 in a bit of a demolition job on The Masters champion but whether he can perform to that level the next afternoon remains to be seen.

I don’t expect too much of a drop off from Rock if I am honest but any drop off could be fatal for his chances this weekend because Chisnall is more than capable of averaging over a ton. Chizzy won that European Tour event last weekend so he’ll be feeling really good about himself right now and he’ll know that he has a wonderful record against Rock. While Rock was exceptional on Saturday evening, Chisnall also averaged a ton and I’d have him a marginal favourite to win this given their head to head record.
