Big Bash League 2016-17 – Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers Betting Preview

The Big Bash League heads back to Brisbane on Tuesday as the league leading Brisbane Heat host the struggling Sydney Sixers in the latest match in this ever popular competition.

With results having gone the way they have a win for the Heat here will all but push them into the playoffs while the Sixers have to win to keep any hopes they have of making the postseason realistic ones.

Brisbane Heat

It is now three wins out of three for the Heat in this competition. All three have been fairly high scoring matches but you would expect that given the make up of this Heat side. They are as powerful as any in the competition with the bat but they look exposed with the ball so it is hard to see their matches being anything other than shootouts.

I will be interested to see how Brisbane will go about their business if they are forced to bat first in this match as this ground is hard to defend but they might just have the batting power to put sides away much like Royal Challengers Bangalore do in the IPL. They are coached by Daniel Vettori like the Heat are so they will know how to do it.

Sydney Sixers

Apart from the first match of the tournament the Sydney Sixers have really struggled with the bat this season. For the most part they have been decent enough with the ball apart from an onslaught by the Hobart opening pairing but they are going to be tested with the ball here that much is a guarantee.

The Sixers need to find a batting line up that works for them. That involves getting off to a good start so I wouldn’t be surprised to see their order changed around here. Nic Maddinson or Brad Haddin could both go up the order while Sam Billings has opened before too.

Team News

The Heat have made one change to their squad for this match. They have called Alex Doolan into the squad in place of Nathan Reardon who has been released to play some cricket in New Zealand.

Sydney Sixers have brought Jordan Silk back into the squad but they remain without Steve O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon who are both in the Australian Test side in Sydney this week.

Betting

As ever on this ground I can’t be getting involved in the match market without knowing the outcome of the toss. It is impossible to defend as we saw in the first game here and that isn’t going to change with the wickets as good for batting at the Gabba as they are.

The problem with taking the match sixes is that the Sixers aren’t batting well and while I expect them to go much better with the willow here given the ground dimensions, the wicket and the attack they are up against I would prefer to take them out of the picture.

I’ll go with Brisbane Heat to hit more than 7.5 sixes. The beauty of this is that they have a seriously aggressive top four who are encouraged to go on the offensive. A company is giving money to charity for every six the Heat hit on this ground so even in a small target they may well look to maximise the charity cash so that 7.5 line is low given they have hit 12, eight and 11 in the tournament so far.
