Big Bash League 2016-17 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder Betting Preview

Two sides who badly need a win battle it out in the Big Bash League on Sunday when the Hobart Hurricanes host the Sydney Thunder. It isn’t quite win or bust for the home side but it isn’t far off. The Thunder go into the match knowing full well if they lose again their season will be done from a competitive standpoint.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes have lacked for consistency for much of the season but if they are to make the playoffs they need to find some now else their campaign will be over. It is with the bat their struggles have started to appear although their bowling has been weak all season. Both sides of the ball need to up their game if they are to reach the semis.

One positive for the Hurricanes is that the Australian ODI squad hasn’t done much damage to their squad so if they can find a groove there isn’t anything that will ruin it unless they do so themselves. That is their target in this match. If they can build some momentum their season stays alive.

Sydney Thunder

Going into the match against the Melbourne Stars last time out the Thunder were 0-4 for the season and while they had lost a couple of close matches they know another defeat will end their title defence from a competitive position. They staved off the seemingly inevitable with a win against the Stars and back to back wins will have them dreaming of going deep again.

The Thunder have struggled with the bat in this campaign so a couple of overseas reinforcements with the bat will have done them no harm. If they can come together as a batting unit then we know they have a bowling attack which can get stuck into sides so there is still hope for them yet.

Team News

Shaun Tait returns to the Hurricanes squad after his injury. He replaces Simon Milenko in the only change and he is expected to come into the side too. Hamish Kingston could make way.

Sydney Thunder have James Vince and Carlos Brathwaite making their competition debuts in place of Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell. Clint McKay also returns after missing the win over the Stars.

Betting

This might be a nervy match but I always like to be on the side who have the clearer mind-set and purpose and for me that is the Thunder. They know their situation is bleak. They have to win out and even then will probably need some luck to make it through.

Hobart aren’t completely done if they lose this and that might see them caught between a rock and a hard place tactically. With clearer minds and a much stronger looking batting line up for this match I’m going to take the Sydney Thunder at odds against.
