Big Bash League 2016-17 – Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers Betting Preview

The Big Bash continues on Tuesday as two former champions collide at the Sydney Cricket Ground when the Sydney Sixers host the Perth Scorchers in what should be another entertaining match in the pick of the T20 tournaments around the world.

The Sixers have a win and a defeat from their two matches in the tournament so far. Perth have only played one match in the competition this season which they won emphatically against the Adelaide Strikers.

Sydney Sixers

Having beaten the defending champions Sydney Thunder in their opening match the Sixers will have been looking to build on that when they faced the Hobart Hurricanes but after getting blitzed by the Hurricanes’ openers they were never really in the game and went down in pretty tame fashion so they need a dramatic improvement on that.

Their two spinners aside the Sixers struggled with the ball against the Hurricanes and that needs to change. A lack of genuine batting depth was another issue so they are going to need their top order to fire if they are to get anything out of this one.

Perth Scorchers

As far as complete performances go the Scorchers delivered one in their opening match of the season so it might be that they have to guard against complacency in this match. We’ve seen two sides who won their opening matches emphatically in this tournament get turned over equally as easily in their second one and Perth will need to guard against that.

Ian Bell gave a good performance on debut in that match while brutal cameos from Ashton Turner and Mitch Marsh along with one of the best bowling displays in the tournament powered Perth to victory and if they can repeat that they will have every chance of delivering a second straight win here.

Team News

The Sixers remain without Daniel Hughes who missed the last match with an injury he picked up in the lead up to that game so Jordan Silk is likely to retain his place. It remains to be seen whether he will open or if Sam Billings or Brad Haddin go up the order.

Perth Scorchers have Shaun Marsh fit and available for this game. He is likely to take his place at the top of the line up. Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff remain on the sidelines with Joel Paris.

Betting

I would be surprised if the Sydney Sixers are as bad in this match as they were in their last one and they can argue they have more to offer with Moises Henriques having contributed nothing to that game but a lack of batting depth while Maddinson is on international duty and Hughes is injured is a concern against one of the best bowling attacks in the tournament.

Perth Scorchers looked good to begin with against Adelaide Strikers but when you add Shaun Marsh to their depth of talent it is hard to see a weakness in them. If one does exist it comes in the form of a lack of a top class spinner but they get around that with some of the best seamers in the tournament. I think they’ll take a lot of beating here and I don’t see it happening. It is Perth for me.
