Big Bash League 2017-18 – Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers Betting Preview

Someone’s 0 has got to go in the Big Bash League on Friday when the Melbourne Renegades host the Perth Scorchers at Etihad Stadium. Both sides have won both of their matches so far this season so top spot is available for whoever can get over the line in what promises to be something of a cracker.

Melbourne Renegades

There were a lot of people touting the Melbourne Renegades as dark horses this season and those judges have been justified with their start to the season. The Renegades have been to Hobart and won and then hosted the Heat and beat them too and in both matches they were extremely comfortable which bodes well.

The options and indeed the quality of their bowling attack has been the impressive thing for them so far but they have a couple of batsmen in excellent form. If anything given that they have won both matches thus far it is now a positive that Aaron Finch hasn’t fired yet. He’ll fire eventually and when he does the Renegades will have even more about them.

Perth Scorchers

The defending champions have been the outsiders for both their matches so far but they have beaten the Melbourne Stars and the Sydney Sixers to open up their season. You would have to say they haven’t been as emphatic in their victories as the Renegades but given the upheaval they have had they won’t care.

The positive for them is that they have produced when they have been under pressure. In the first game in Sydney an individual cameo got them over the line while in the second match they relied on their tried and tested bowling attack to defend a modest total, which they did with comfort. If they find form with the bat this lot will be tough to beat.

Team News

Melbourne Renegades have brought Chris Tremain back into their squad for this match but you would expect them to be unchanged after emphatic wins in the tournament so far.

Perth Scorchers have included leg spinner James Muirhead in their squad for the encounter. Michael Klinger has been named in it so he is set to play which is good. Cameron Bancroft and the Marsh brothers remain with Australia.

Betting

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we look back on this match at the end of it and see that the 6/4 on the Perth Scorchers was incredible value but I’m on them outright so I can let them win and take a stranglehold on the competition without actually backing them to do so.

That is because the bet I like is under 11.5 sixes. Both these sides are hard to score off and very hard to hit sixes against. The Melbourne Renegades have only gone for eight sixes in their two matches so far while the Perth Scorchers have conceded just two in their two games. The Scorchers aren’t yet batting brilliantly so even on this ground this line looks high. I’m expecting the bowlers to remain on top.
