Big Bash League 2017-18 – Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Betting Preview

We return to Sydney for the Big Bash League offering on Thursday as the Sydney Sixers host the Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Sixers go into the match desperately needing a win while the Strikers can join Perth and the Renegades with 100% records after two matches should they win.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers have no wins from their two matches but they could easily have had two wins from them. I say that because they got into winning positions in both games but a freaky run of inside edges late on saw them lose to the Sydney Thunder and then an Ashton Turner blitz saw the Scorchers come from nowhere to take the Sixers down.

Sydney don’t need to change too much going into this match they just need to finish the matches off better. That might just need Moises Henriques to manage his bowling options slightly better in the field but that is certainly not beyond them. Another way would be for one of their top three to go big which hasn’t happened yet.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers have only played one match but it was an emphatic win against the Sydney Thunder. In fairness the Thunder haven’t really done much for that form since then so we might get a better gauge of how strong the Adelaide outfit are this season in this match because there is no doubt in my mind the Sixers are better than their league position.

If the Strikers are to push on and be genuine contenders in this campaign then they will need to prove that they have the batting depth to go deep. That is my concern about them and they didn’t really do much to dispel my concerns in their opening match. On the flip side they look very good with the ball.

Team News

The Sydney Sixers have made one change to their squad with Ben Dwarshuis who has missed their opening two matches. He replaces Dougie Bollinger who hasn’t been at his best in the tournament so far.

Adelaide Strikers have also made one change to their playing staff for this one. Michael Neser comes into the reckoning and the signals are that he is set to play from the start.

Betting

This should be a competitive match on Thursday and one which could go either way but the obvious thing about both sides is that they have not batted well in the series so far. That might be harsh on the Strikers given that they have only batted once but it is certainly the case for the Sixers.

I think over the course of the campaign the bowling attacks will be the strength of these two sides and I think we will see that in this match. There are some quality bowlers on show not least Sean Abbott, Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle and as a result I’m not expecting many sixes here. Adelaide look a batsman or two light to me and Sydney haven’t got going at the top of the order yet so under 9.5 sixes looks fair to me.
