Big Bash League 2018-19 – Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades Betting Preview

There is one more Big Bash League match on Thursday which comes from the Gabba as the Brisbane Heat take on the Melbourne Renegades in a clash both sides will be looking to win to make their way into the top four heading towards the halfway stage.

Both sides head into the match off the back of good wins last time out which should make for a decent game of cricket, and when you add in the potential to make it into the top four there should be a real competitive edge to this one.

Brisbane Heat

Although they were helped by the rain in their previous match, the Brisbane Heat got a vital win, which was a second successive victory and they will be looking to make it three on the spin, which would even up their ledger heading towards the halfway stage of their regular season campaign. If they can win here they would put themselves on the fringes of the finals spots and in a good position to push on.

There is no secret to the upturn in form for the Heat, their batsmen have begun to deliver the goods which in turn has taken the pressure off the bowlers and as a result they have started to win matches. The acid test is to keep their batsmen delivering the goods and if they can do that then there could still be success for them this term.

Melbourne Renegades

If there is a weird side in this tournament then it has been the Melbourne Renegades. They ended a three match losing snap last time out when they became the first team to see off the Hobart Hurricanes which means that having won their first two matches of the campaign, they set with an even ledger going into this match which takes them to the halfway mark in their season.

Melbourne delivered with the bat against the Hurricanes, although in fairness they were hardly brutal in their approach with the willow. In fairness to them the job had been done with the ball earlier in the contest. If they are to push on from that win though, they will need their batting to become good again as that is very much their weakness.

Team News

The Brisbane Heat have made one change to their squad with Alex Ross coming in for Test star Marnus Labaschagne. Ross will be looking to make a big impact with the bat on a ground he has gone well at in the past.

Melbourne Renegades have also made one change to their squad. They have gained Test opener Marcus Harris but they have lost their captain Aaron Finch to international duty once again. That is expected to be the only change in their starting line up too.

Betting

I’ve often thought we would get low scoring matches in this tournament in recent times but I don’t see that being the case here. The Gabba is the best ground in the country in terms of pitches and things and with the Brisbane Heat batting order suddenly beginning to fire I’m expecting to see a fair amount of runs in this match.

The runs line here is only 326.5 which is quite low for a match on this ground. The Renegades might not have the best batting line up in the competition but they are not up against one of the stronger bowling attacks. On the flip side there are runs in the Heat team so I fancy the pair to combine to cover that run line.
