Big Bash League 2018-19 – Sydney Sixers vs Brisbane Heat Betting Preview

Two sides who find themselves outside the top four in the Big Bash League table meet in a big looking match in the Big Bash League on Sunday as the Sydney Sixers take on the Brisbane Heat in a battle that neither can afford to lose.

Things are not drastic for either side yet, and indeed a victory will send the winners back into the top four but with matches beginning to run out, losing could have a dramatic implication on whoever it is who fails here.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers were enjoying a decent little season but they have dropped their last two matches and need to end that slump pretty swiftly. They will have been very disappointed to have been beaten so easily in their previous match because it was the first of a nice run of fixtures at the Sydney Cricket Ground. They will be looking to get some form going here.

The concern for the Sixers would be that in their first defeat their bowlers had a bad day and then in the second loss their batting was terrible. The one thing they can’t afford at this stage of the campaign is for both facets of the game to start faltering. Generally that is when a rot sets in and then comes the panic and nothing good comes of that.

Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat head into this match off the back of just one defeat in their last five matches although they almost stole a share of the spoils last time out when the power went out with them needing snookers against the Sydney Thunder. That match acted as a reminder that they need to deliver the goods with the ball because Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum can’t always get them out of trouble.

Despite that no result, the Heat are still in a decent position in that they are in control of their own destiny, and that outcome actually gives them an odd number of points so if they finish with the same number of wins as another team they will have the advantage over them, which could be significant when it comes to the top four.

Team News

The Sydney Sixers have named the same squad which they used in the defeat to the Melbourne Renegades last time out. Tom Curran and James Vince continue as the overseas players for the Sixers.

The Brisbane Heat have made one change to their squad for the trip to Sydney. They bring spinner Matthew Kuhnemann into their mix with Mark Steketee making way for him. It is unlikely that they will change too much in the team though.

Betting

I’m a Sydney Sixers man for this match. They have already seen off the Brisbane Heat in this competition and I think they have the tools to do so again here. They had an absolute mare with the bat in the last match but they were up against a decent bowling attack to be fair. They won’t be under quite so much pressure from the bowling here which should allow their batting to prosper a little more in this one.

Brisbane Heat rely too much on two batsmen for my liking and the Sydney Sixers have the ability in their bowling resources to keep them quiet so it has to be the home side in this one for me. Even if Lynn or McCullum do get away from them, I think the Sixers have enough in their ranks to get over the line and at odds against they offer up the value.
