Big Bash League 2018-19 – Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes Betting Preview

The top two teams heading into the week meet in the second of the Big Bash League matches on Wednesday when the Sydney Sixers host the runaway leaders Hobart Hurricanes at the famous Sydney Cricket Ground.

Both sides have looked good in this competition and will be looking to win the title from the position they have got themselves into. A win here would enhance their chances of launching a bid for glory but you sense this will be extremely competitive.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers broke a run of two defeats when they cruised past the Brisbane Heat over the weekend and now they will be looking to continue that run as this is the centre match of five successive home games. The Sixers have 10pts to their name already so three wins in their last five will guarantee a semi-final berth and good wins will ensure that the match is on their home ground.

We’ve mentioned all season that the fortunes of the Sixers is largely about their batting. When that fires they tend to win matches. There has only been one instance this term where their bowling has let them down and they have reacted pretty well since then. They shot Brisbane Heat out for less than 100 last time out as the scoreboard pretty did for the Heat so that has to be their focus.

Hobart Hurricanes

It is now three wins in a row for the table topping Hobart Hurricanes and in the nine matches they have played this season, they have only lost one of them, which is an insane record. When the business end comes around the regular season counts for little but there is no doubt that the Tasmanian side are the dominance force at the minute and they will surely be hosting a semi-final, which will enhance their title chances.

As I’ve been saying for a few weeks now, the success of the Hurricanes is largely down to their top order. There are not many teams in this tournament who have their openers on top form but the Hurricanes are definitely one of them. The starts they have been getting them off to have taken all the pressure away from the rest of the batsmen and the bowlers, which is an absolutely ideal combination.

Team News

Sydney Sixers are expected to keep with the same side which thrashed the Brisbane Heat last time out which means that English pair James Vince and Tom Curran will be hoping to have maximum effect on the contest.

The Hobart Hurricanes have also named an unchanged squad for this encounter and as such David Moody could make his debut in this match if he is selected, although that looks unlikely with the Hurricanes surely likely to name the same XI that beat Adelaide.

Betting

I think we might see a high scoring match here. When these two met in Tasmania both sides scored more than 160 and two first innings on this ground have gone beyond 160 as well so there is every reason to believe that the 312.5 total runs line is a little on the low side here, even allowing for the quality that is contained in the two bowling attacks.

Both teams are playing with some good confidence at the minute and have scored plenty of runs in recent times and so with that I’m expecting to see the batsmen get on top and dominate. If Hobart bat first they could put up the sort of score that might not need much from the Sixers to cover but Sydney got enough last time out here to have done the same thing. I’ll play the over on this line.
