Big Bash League 2018-19 – Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat Betting Preview

There is one match in the Big Bash League on Tuesday and it comes from Spotless Stadium as two former champions meet as the Sydney Thunder go up against the Brisbane Heat in the latest offering in the competition.

Sydney have made a good start to their campaign but have stuttered a little in recent times whereas the Brisbane side got their first win of the tournament last time out and will be eyeing up a second victory in quick succession.

Sydney Thunder

I would imagine the Thunder will be more than a touch disappointed heading into this match after their defeat to the Melbourne Stars on Saturday. They will know they let themselves down with the bat and should be looking to make up for that here, against a side who don’t offer the strength of others with the ball. They need to resist the temptation to go too hard though.

One thing which should give the Sydney outfit some confidence heading into this match is that they have a bowling attack which suits the wicket that they play on. You would think that would be the case for any side but you would be amazed the amount of teams that don’t fulfil that basic requirement. If they can bat well they should have enough to win.

Brisbane Heat

At the fourth time of asking the Brisbane Heat got off the mark for the season when they defeated the Brisbane Heat on Saturday and they will be looking to secure a second straight win when they head to Sydney, and if they can do that they will get themselves onto the fringes of the top four and still have a bunch of matches in hand of many teams.

I think we need to see them win against one of the higher sides before we place our trust in the Heat, because although the Perth Scorchers have one of the bigger reputations in the competition, they are lacking for form this year and have really disappointed. Nevertheless you can never criticise a team for winning whoever they beat and that victory could launch some batting confidence which would make them extremely dangerous.

Team News

Despite their defeat to the Melbourne Stars, the Sydney Thunder have named an unchanged squad with Jos Buttler and Joe Root playing their final matches for the franchise before they head off on international duty.

Brisbane Heat will be boosted by the availability of Marnus Labaschagne who has been released by Australia in time to play in the match. He joins Mujeeb and Mitch Swepson as potential spinning options.

Betting

Jos Buttler has a decent record on this ground with 50s in both of the matches he has played here this season and given that this is his final match of the season I’m expecting him to look to go out with something of a bang. His two half centuries came against much better bowling attacks than the one he will face here too.

The England star has a runs line in this match of 21.5 which looks criminally on the low side to me. He has only failed to make it to 20 once in the entire tournament so he is in decent enough form. Big names look to leave a mark when they depart events and I fancy Buttler will go out in some style. How many he makes remains to be seen but I fancy he’ll reach 22 at least.
