Two of the better teams in the Big Bash League this season meet in the one game in the tournament on Tuesday when the surging Perth Scorchers take on the underrated Hobart Hurricanes in a clash between two sides in the top five in the table.
Perth have the bit between their teeth going into this match whereas the Hurricanes have started to stutter a little. The two teams go into the game knowing that whoever wins will come out of the night in third place in the table.
Perth Scorchers
After a slow start to the season, the Perth Scorchers have now won their last four matches and are coming on strong. They have a game in hand of everyone in the league and two in hand of the Adelaide Strikers so their destiny is very much in their own hands. This is their last home match this season though so if they are going to push on and make the finals they are going to need to find some wins on the road.
The beauty of the Perth Scorchers right now is that both areas of their side are performing strongly, and perhaps more importantly, almost everyone in their team is doing the business. You could argue that Liam Livingstone hasn’t hit form yet but if he does that is only going to make the Scorchers stronger. Perth are always hard to beat on their own patch but this season they have delivered some resounding victories. They’ll be looking to produce another here.
Hobart Hurricanes
After a positive run at the beginning of the season, the Hobart Hurricanes have now lost their last two matches and in truth they weren’t ever at the races in either of them. The latter of those two was on this ground where they didn’t seem to enjoy the conditions so that is something that they are going to need to get to grips with quickly else they could be out of this contest before they even find themselves truly in it.
You get the feeling that the batsmen are going to be key for the Hobart Hurricanes. They haven’t really fired as one unit for a while but they might need to here if they are going to come away with the win. In the main their bowlers have gone pretty well this season despite one or two injuries just starting to catch up with them so if they can find a strong batting display then they are entitled to feel they have a chance here.

Team News
The Perth Scorchers have been forced into a change for this match with Colin Munro having suffered an injury in the previous game. Joe Clarke has hung around the squad and he will come in for him in an otherwise unchanged setup.
The Hobart Hurricanes are without arguably their two most important bowlers in Riley Meredith and James Faulkner. They have named an unchanged squad from the one which lost to the Sydney Thunder last time out.
Betting
The Perth Scorchers might be a little on the short side at 8/11 but I do think they will win this match and that is where my money is going. The Scorchers are notoriously tough to beat at home and while it would be better if Colin Munro was fit and in the side, Joe Clarke isn’t a terrible replacement and the rest of the batting in the main are going pretty well. It is the Perth bowling attack which is really doing the business right now though and that could be the difference here.
I like the Hobart Hurricanes and I still expect them to finish the season well but their bowling resources are getting a little stretched with the injuries to Meredith and Faulkner and their batting has just come off the top of its form. I didn’t think they enjoyed the conditions when they played the Sydney Thunder here and they are not likely to get an easier ride here. Even at 8/11 I think the home side are good things here.
