Big Bash League 2021-22 – Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers Tips and Betting Preview

There is just the one match scheduled in the Big Bash League on Sunday and it sees the two sides who have been the best in the competition for much of the campaign meeting when the Sydney Sixers host the Perth Scorchers in a repeat of the final from last season.

These two sides head to Coffs Harbour with the Sixers in third place in the standings and looking to move back into second. The Scorchers lead the way and can take a huge step towards giving themselves two bites at a place in the final with a win here.

Sydney Sixers

What has been a good title defence for the Sydney Sixers for much of the campaign has just hit a rough patch in recent times. They have only won one of their last three matches with a washout and a tough defeat in that run too. The win they got they kind of stole from the clouds so the Sixers could do with a convincing performance here. In an ideal world that will deliver a win to get them back on track but I think the performance is needed more than anything.

That performance needs to come from their batters who have gone quiet in recent times. They have lost James Vince now which isn’t ideal but in truth their top order haven’t delivered consistently or as one for a while. We know that the Sixers have the bowling attack to contain and dominate any side when they are on it but as we saw in the previous match against the Scorchers, they can’t keep relying on individual efforts or the lower order to get the job done.

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers continue to lead the way in this competition but they will go into this match off the back of a second defeat of the season. Both of those losses have come against the Sydney Thunder so they will be glad to get them out of the way and now they can focus on a strong finish to the regular campaign to ensure that they go into the postseason in decent form. Perth know how to peak at the right time in this event and will be looking to activate that experience here.

The one concern for the Scorchers would be that they are beginning to lose a few players as we go along in this competition. The other issue is that they are away from home throughout the tournament and you would imagine that in these uncertain times that will take its toll eventually. The flip side of that is that the end is beginning to loom in sight in this event. They could do with a solid batting effort just for confidence more than anything.

Team News

Sydney Sixers will have to make a change here with James Vince having left for England duty now. Shadab Khan has been able to rejoin the squad having not been able to get into Queensland for the last two matches. Steve O’Keefe is out with injury so Justin Avendano comes into the squad.

Perth Scorchers will also be forced into a change for this match because of someone leaving for England duty. Tymal Mills has departed so Jason Behrendorff and Peter Hatzoglou will be battling it out to replace him.

Betting

The Perth Scorchers won when these two met a week or so ago and although it wasn’t their most convincing performance they got the job done. The Sixers did not bat well in that match and haven’t done for a while and I’m not sure a meeting with the Scorchers attack is going to change that very much. With that in mind, I like the Scorchers to get back to winning ways in this match and at 10/11 they are a decent enough price to do it.

The Sixers are going to have to deal with a couple of big changes in their side and although Perth miss Tymal Mills from here on in, he arrived to the tournament late and missed a match halfway through so they have coped without him. Sydney are going to need to do a bit of rejigging with their absentees and injured players and I think that is going to be harder for them to overcome than the Perth changes. I’ll take Perth here. Sydney just aren’t batting well enough for my liking.
