The second half of the double header in the Big Bash League on Sunday takes us to the Adelaide Oval for what is another huge clash as the Adelaide Strikers take on the Perth Scorchers, the third to last game of the regular season for both sides.
Adelaide currently sit two points below the playoff places but a win here will level that up whereas the Scorchers, third going into the double header, have the chance to put a bit of distance between themselves and the chasing pack for the final spots.
Adelaide Strikers
The Adelaide Strikers are now 3-4 for their season so they are probably going to have to win out from here if they are going to take their place in the finals the week after next. They would have been confident of doing that because they were due to get both Alex Carey and Travis Head back for the remainder of the tournament but news has broken that they won’t see the latter after all which is a bit of a blow to their chances. They do get Carey back here and he probably returns at a good time.
The Strikers go into this match off the back of a defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes which quickly became an exercise in preserving their net run rate as best as they could after a horror start to their run chase with the bat. They didn’t do a bad job but it is low enough that they are probably going to need to win one of these last three matches by a significant margin if they are going to keep their destiny in their own hands entering the final game or two.
Perth Scorchers
The Perth Scorchers are used to being heavily involved in the business end of this competition and it is looking like they will be again here too. They have moved themselves up to third in the table and will claim a spot in the top two by the end of the day should they come out on top here. We know how significant that is as it will mean that if they win their last two games they will give themselves two cracks at making the final should then need it when the playoffs come along.
The Scorchers batting has really come to the fore the longer this competition has gone on, although they did stumble last time out. They get Josh Inglis back from international duty for this one which is no bad thing. They do need to keep the intensity up with the ball in hand and Jhye Richardson coming back from The Ashes they have a gun bowler to help. The Scorchers have already beaten Adelaide once this season which should do their confidence no harm.

Key Players
Liam Scott is becoming a massive player for the Adelaide Strikers. He has been taking the new ball for them and his 91* in the defeat to Hobart showed all of his class to produce that despite wickets tumbling at the other end. The Strikers will hope he has a big showing in him here.
Josh Inglis didn’t feature towards the end of The Ashes series so he is probably chomping at the bit to get back in the orange and take his frustration out on the bowling. There is no reason why he can’t have a big match here.
Betting
This should be a decent match because there is plenty on it for both teams. The Adelaide Strikers need to win to realistically keep their hopes of qualifying in their own hands while the Perth Scorchers very much have their sights set on reaching the top two and getting all the benefits that come along with it. Given that they have already beaten the Strikers, I fancy the Scorchers to win this match but they are pretty skinny in terms of price so I’m looking to get on Perth via another method.
That comes in the form of their sixes line which is 7.5 at even money. We know that the square boundaries at the Adelaide Oval are on the small side and we know that the wicket is playing well here this summer so I think Perth can cover this. They have hit 68 sixes in seven innings this term at an average of a nudge under 10 per innings so we only need an average showing from them for this line to be covered. Adelaide aren’t playing Tabraiz Shamsi here and he took 3-30 in the reverse match. Add Josh Inglis into the batting unit and I expect Perth to hit one more six than they did when these two first met this term.
