Big Bash League 2025-26 – Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

We have another big match in the Big Bash League on Friday ahead of a bumper weekend of action and it takes us to the Ninja Stadium where the Hobart Hurricanes continue their title defence when they take on the Adelaide Strikers.

The Hurricanes top the table and will be looking to pull clear at the summit as we head towards the end of the regular season while the Strikers are a spot below the top four and need to win to keep pace with those above them.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes have had a bit of a rollercoaster title defence so far but they have remained strong at the top when others have faltered they have remained strong and they have set up the chance to move four points clear at the summit should they come out on top in this game. That would leave them needing one more win to ensure a top two finish in the regular season and they get the chance to control their destiny from there, so it is a title challenge which is well on track to date.

One area where the Hurricanes need to clean up their act is with the ball in hand. They have conceded 200 or more in their last two matches and it isn’t sustainable to win this competition needing that many runs to win games. They are about to get a couple of batters back to strengthen that side of the ball, which is probably no bad thing given that Tim David remains out, but someone needs to take responsibility with the ball for them.

Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers have been up and down so far this season. They have three wins and three defeats from their opening six matches so they are in a good position to launch towards the top four in their final four games. They will be boosted by having three big players back after this match so if they can come out of this one with a win you would probably make them favourites to reach the final four and you couldn’t rule out them pushing for a top two spot and all the benefits that go with it.

The Strikers have generally bowled well in this competition but when they have been beaten it has been their batters that haven’t quite delivered for them so having Travis Head and Alex Carey on the horizon is definitely no bad thing in that regard. There is no reason why they can’t go well with the bat here because the Hurricanes have been weak with the ball, but their bowlers are most likely to be under pressure given the quality on show in the opposition ranks.

Key Players

Mitch Owen showed signs of delivering the goods with the bat in the previous match for the Hobart Hurricanes and we saw last season the damage he can do late on in the competition. Hobart will hope that was the start of him going big again.

Tabraiz Shamsi has only played one match for the Adelaide Strikers in this competition but he took 3-30 in it and you get the feeling he could be the one to keep the big hitters in the Hurricanes batting unit quiet to keep the Strikers in the game.

Betting

The Hobart Hurricanes are clearly the team to beat in this competition at the minute but their bowling is giving me a major concern at the minute and there are definitely players in this Adelaide Strikers batting unit that can get after that and as such I think the visitors are a bigger price than they should be in this one. I get why the Hurricanes are favourites and they have the firepower to beat anyone but if their batting does fail against a good bowling unit I wouldn’t back Hobart to win.

Adelaide probably lack a batter, which is understandable when you consider that Travis Head and Alex Carey are waiting in the wings, but they have a couple of players who were one of them to come off they would make up for that. Even then, their bowlers have been doing a good job of keeping the scoring down and taking the heat of their batters. I really haven’t been impressed with the last two bowling efforts of the Hurricanes and so the 11/8 on an Adelaide win is a good value bet for me.
