There is one match in the Big Bash League on Monday and it is a big one for the two sides involved as we head back to Coffs Harbour for the clash between two former winners of the competition in Sydney Sixers and the Brisbane Heat.
These two teams are currently the ones either side of the line between those qualifying for the finals and those who don’t. The Heat are above it and can take a big step towards the playoffs with a win but the Sixers would overtake them if they come out on top.
Sydney Sixers
This hasn’t been the season that the Sydney Sixers would have wanted so far but there is still time for them to put it right and push on and ensure that they are competing in the postseason once again. The Sixers have two wins and three losses from the first half of their campaign but those two wins have come in their last three matches so there are signs that they are getting their act together. We know from the past that the magenta men can easily string wins together when they are on a roll.
They are going to get a couple of big players back for a short while at the end of the week too which should further assist their quest to make it into the top four. As well as their bowling attack getting stronger with returning players, the catalyst to the two wins is their elite overseas opener coming up with 50s when it mattered and with others beginning to bat around him the Sixers are starting to become a reliable force once again.
Brisbane Heat
The Brisbane Heat have three wins from six matches this season but when you look at their net run rate, which is -0.786, you can see that their wins have been a lot tighter than their losses. A couple of those wins were spectacular ones for one reason or another but a couple of the defeats have been a little tame so the Heat need their floor to get a lot closer to their ceiling if they are going to kick on and ensure they are in the top four come the end of the regular season.
The Heat have produced two epic run chases to pad up their record because in truth they weren’t really ever in either of the games they won in dramatic style. They are going to need their bowlers to step up to the mark and keep teams to more manageable totals because as brilliant as a couple of those run chases were, it isn’t sustainable to get home in such incredible fashion for too long. There are reinforcements arriving at the end of the week though so if Brisbane can get the win here they will be looking good.

Key Players
Babar Azam has made 50 in both of the wins that the Sydney Sixers have achieved this season so they will be looking towards the Pakistan great to get stuck into the run scoring once again here and set the game up for their side.
Only Sam Harper has more runs in this tournament so far than Matt Renshaw and you get the impression that if the Brisbane Heat are going to get the job done here then he’ll need to fill his boots once again.
Betting
The fact that this is at Coffs Harbour makes betting on the match a little tricky because the wicket there can be a little hit or miss and we only usually get one game here a season and in two of the last three it has been rained off and given how the game has changed over that time I’m a little reluctant to get involved in a bet which doesn’t have some decent value attached to it because there is a bit of extra guesswork going into this one.
The bet I like is for Ben Dwarshuis to take over 1.5 wickets which you can get at 6/4. That feels like a decent price for a man who has a five-wicket haul against the Heat in the past and who has bowled nicely in the last two matches for the Sixers. If there is a weakness in this Brisbane batting unit it is against left arm seam and that is what the Australia international will send down. Dwarshuis has been left out of the Australia T20 World Cup squad so he might have a point to prove and has a good batting unit to prove it against here.
