We have another double header in the Big Bash League on Sunday and that gets started at the Sydney Cricket Ground where two teams in the top four in the table meet as the Sydney Sixers host the defending champions Hobart Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes will go on the verge of securing a top two finish with a win while the Sixers will move level on points with second place should they come out on top as we head into the final week of regular season action.
Sydney Sixers
The Sydney Sixers took a little while to come to life this season but three pretty comfortable wins in their last three outings have catapulted them into the top four. They haven’t yet done enough to solidify their positions in the finals so they are going to need to come out of their last three games with a positive win record but you get the impression that with some big players back they are about to hit top form and will be hard to stop from here.
It has been the bowlers who have been doing the majority of the heavy lifting for the Sixers in recent times but with Steve Smith back from The Ashes and wanting to make a positive impression in this format of the game once again, you suspect the batting could be about to reach another gear. He comes in for a batter so there will be no weakening to the bowling, a unit which is only going to get stronger once Mitchell Starc becomes available too.
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hobart Hurricanes are on course to complete a successful title defence. They sit top of the table as we close in on the final week of the regular season and are in pole position to finish in the top two and secure the two goes at making the final which comes with it. They have won six of their eight matches but their net run rate is the lowest in the top four currently so that could still be used against them, therefore the champions need to keep on winning.
To help with that they have a couple of batters back for this match after they have completed their international commitments and that is certainly no bad thing. To be fair, it hasn’t really been their batting which has been a problem. Their bowling was creaking at the seams but they delivered a much better performance in that department in the recent win over the Adelaide Strikers so they will be feeling very good as they make their way to Sydney.

Key Players
Steve Smith is still hoping to force his way into the Australia T20 setup ahead of the Olympics in a couple of years so on the rare occasions he gets to showcase his credentials for the Sydney Sixers he needs to take it. This is one of those moments.
Beau Webster will be donning the purple for the first time in this match after he has completed his international stint. He will definitely lengthen the batting for the Hobart Hurricanes but can provide another bowling option as well.
Betting
We have only just had a Test match here and when that was being played out there was no sign of another wicket being prepared. Even if one has been developed since then and now, temperatures have broken the 40 degree mark in this part of the world in recent days so it is going to be a pretty dry offering you would think and that is likely to see the bowlers on top, particularly with this being a day game and therefore no dew issues to worry about or anything like that.
That makes me think that this might be a lower scoring game than expected. Both of these bowling attacks are decent enough anyway and there is plenty of spin on show which if the wicket is dry will certainly make scoring runs more difficult. Some of the seamers are good at taking the pace off the ball too so I think that the 339.5 run line looks a little on the high here. For that to have any chance of being busted the first innings score has to be 167. The Sixers haven’t conceded that total all season so I like the under here.
