Monday’s Big Bash League match sees the action return to the beautiful setting of Hobart as the Hobart Hurricanes host the Melbourne Renegades in another explosive looking match up.
Both sides head into the second half of their fixtures here. The Hurricanes can be the first team to win four matches if they win here while the Renegades urgently need another win to keep their hopes of making the semi-final a realistic one.
Hobart Hurricanes have really bounced back well from their mauling at the hands of the Sydney Sixers. They have won their last three matches and did extremely well to turn around their last match against the Sydney Thunder when they looked on the verge of defeat. George Bailey and Dan Christian have shone for them.
Given the form they are in it is no surprise the Hurricanes have named an unchanged squad and it would be an even bigger surprise if Simon Milenko and Sam Rainbird weren’t on drinks duty once again.
There was much hype surrounding the Melbourne Renegades before the tournament and it looked like they might justify the billing they were getting when they strolled past the Brisbane Heat in their opening match but they’ve been soundly beaten in three matches since then and really need to end the slide.
They have made one change to their squad with Cameron Stevenson replacing Ben McDermott but what they really need is a strike bowler and with that in mind it will no doubt annoy them that despite missing out on selection for the Sydney Test match, Peter Siddle hasn’t been made available for this match.
It is no surprise that the team chasing has won all four of the Renegades’ matches so far and I fully expect that to be the case here purely because they have so little to offer with the ball. Their strength is heavily with the bat and you could probably say the same about the Hurricanes although their attack is a bit better than the Renegades’ one.
With that in mind I’m not betting on the match outcome before I know how is batting second but one bet I am happy to take before a ball is bowled again comes in the sixes market where the line sits at 11.5.
Even without weak bowling attacks I would be interested in this line given the power batting on display here but when you factor in who is on show I would be surprised if there isn’t a dozen maximums.
We’ve got Aaron Finch, Chris Gayle, Cameron White, Matthew Wade, Dwayne Bravo, Tim Paine, Ben Dunk, George Bailey, Dan Christian and Darren Sammy all swinging the willow here and that amount of talent should deliver at least 12 sixes and potentially many more.
