British Masters Golf – Round 2 Betting Preview

It was an up and down day for many of the players in the first round of the British Masters on Thursday and for the 118 man field Friday’s second round is about getting themselves either in the mix or in position to strike over the weekend.

The 118 players go out in groups of three once again on Friday in the same groups they played the opening round in. As with Thursday a few of the groups have been priced up for us to have a bet on and we’ll do just that.

Morning Groups

The pick of the morning groups on paper is the Luke Donald, Andy Sullivan and Chris Wood group although with the tournament host Donald playing himself out of the event on the opening day that group might be all about Wood and Sullivan. Co-leader Tommy Fleetwood is out early alongside Ross Fisher and Alex Levy.

They go out on the 10th tee but off the first tee another co-leader heads out when Richard Sterne goes off alongside Fabrizio Zanotti and Richard Green. Matteo Manassero is another who goes off the first tee in the morning.

Afternoon Groups

The pick of the afternoon groups is the one featuring Matthew Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood and Tyrrell Hatton although all eyes may well be on the group containing Callum Shinkwin, Marc Warren and Bradley Dredge with Warren co-leading the tournament.

Thorbjorn Olesen, Richard Bland and Joost Luiten should take some of the galleries around with them as should Bernd Wiesberger, Thongchai Jaidee and Soren Kjeldsen while the other co-leader Mikko Ilonen is out in the afternoon too.

Betting

There is only one group which interests me from a betting point of view and it is the one featuring Anthony Wall, Joakim Lagergren and Felipe Aguilar and I like the man who won that on Thursday to win again.

Anthony Wall shot a solid three under par round while his two playing partners were scrambling around shooting over par and with them out in the more benign the over par rounds were not what was needed.

Conditions are expected to get worse throughout the day with a bit of rain around and the wind expected to kick up so these three will be playing the elements as well as a very difficult golf course. Wall has shown he is proficient in the wind in the past though and I expect him to show that here and nail this three ball for a second day running.
