Caribbean Premier League – Barbados Tridents vs Jamaica Tallawahs Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League makes a first stop in Barbados on Monday night when the Barbados Tridents take on the Jamaica Tallawahs in another big match in the competition. With the table beginning to take shape now every match is vital in this tournament and this one is no different.

Barbados Tridents

It has been a slow start to the season for the Barbados franchise with this just their third match of the campaign but that has given the new players time to bed in and settle into the competition and now is the time for them to kick on during their home leg of the event.

Barbados have a win and a defeat to their name in the tournament so far with the win coming last time out courtesy of some pyrotechnics from AB de Villiers along with some real solid bowling and they will be looking for similar here too against a very dangerous side.

Jamaica Tallawahs

Jamaica go into this match off the back of a defeat to Guyana in their last game. Just like the Tridents it has been a quiet beginning to the campaign for Chris Gayle’s men. They have only played three matches although that defeat to Guyana was their only loss so far. They’ll be out to put that right here.

Few were surprised by Jamaica’s defeat in Guyana last time out because those conditions were never going to suit them. These conditions will but it will be interesting to see how quickly they can adjust from the slow and low wicket they had in Guyana to the fast and bouncy one here at the Kensington Oval.

Betting

This match is where the quirks of betting in this competition really come to the fore. Yesterday we were anticipating a slow and low wicket and a low scoring match where batting was going to be tough and then just over 24hrs we’re going to get a high scoring game on a fast and bouncy surface.

We recognise that fact but I’m not so sure that the bookmakers have appreciated that because one or two of the lines are on the attractive side it has to be said. As far as the match is concerned I quite like Barbados but to take on Chris Gayle in this tournament you have to be certain and I’m not really I have to say.

With that in mind my bet for this match will be the boundaries where I’m convinced the line is too low at 33.5. We’ve not seen an avalanche of boundaries in the tournament yet apart from a feast of sixes but the pace on the wicket here brings fours into play as well as we saw in the tri-series last month.

Both batting line ups have some fearsome batsmen in their line up and even without Andre Russell I still think we’re going to get a high scoring match and when the numbers are totted up at the end of this one I fancy we’ll safely surpass 33.5 boundaries in what very well could be the highest scoring match in the tournament so far.
