The second stage of the Championship League Snooker tournament continues inside the Morningside Arena in Leicester on Tuesday when eight more players return looking to make the final day of the event.
We saw a favourite go in and another surprisingly dumped out on the first day of the second stage on Monday which is likely to keep the heavy hitters on their toes on Tuesday and for the remainder of the week.

Group C will take place on Table Two on Tuesday where the Thai ace Noppon Saengkham is the top seed in a group which looks like it could be very competitive despite his three opponents being lowly ranked. It is Daniel Wells who is the second seed in this group and when you consider he only started another two-year tour card at the beginning of this season, it goes to show the gulf in ranking distance between the Thai and the rest in the group. Ashley Carty and Liu Hongyu are the other players starting out on a two-year card and they complete the line up on the streamed table.

The Welsh Open champion Robert Milkins is the top seed in Group H which will be the section where the TV coverage is focused on throughout the day on Tuesday. Milkins can play with the freedom of knowing he will be at the Champion of Champions later in the season but the other three in the group don’t have that luxury. Second seed is the World Championship semi-finalist Si Jiahui is the second seed in this section as he goes about backing up his run at the Crucible. His fellow Chinese player Pang Junxu is the third seed in what has the makings of a very interesting group and while John Astley looks a little bit behind the rest, he has already seen off the Scottish Open champion in Gary Wilson in the first round.

Group Betting
There is certainly a competitive looking group on the main table on Tuesday but it is one where my two remaining outrights are housed so while I’ve got a 50% chance of one of them heading through to the final day, it does mean that I don’t really need to get involved in this group from a betting point of view, particularly as the two carrying my money are the top two seeds in Robert Milkins and Si Jiahui. Pang Junxu is a danger but I like the thought that one of my two will come through.
Over in the other group we have a wide open section in my eyes. Noppon Saengkham is the favourite to progress and if this came down to the rankings he might do so unopposed but two challengers look like they could be value against him in Daniel Wells and Liu Hongyu. They both won all three matches in the first stage and looked good in doing so. When you consider that Hongyu was making his tour debut his group win was very impressive but there is something about Wells that I like this season. The way he got his card through tour achievements last season even though he wasn’t a professional was impressive and he looked like he had plenty of confidence in his first group. By virtue of the fact that he gets what looks the easier game first I think the 9/4 on him winning the group is a fair price to invest in.
Match Betting
I hinted on Monday that I might be done with match betting for the most part in this tournament and while that might not be official, it certainly is the case on Tuesday as there isn’t a favourite I want to take on. In the TV group I think the two main seeds are good things or certainly won’t lose their opening match as Robert Milkins will be a warm favourite against John Astley and I think Si Jiahui will be too good for Pang Junxu.
Over on Table Two we have a rare case of the third seed being favourite to beat the second seed with Daniel Wells expected to beat Ashley Carty. I expect that to happen too. If I was going to oppose a top seed it would be Noppon Saengkham but while Liu Hongyu played well in the opening group I’m not as confident that he’ll replicate that in this company as I would like to be in order to invest therefore I’ll leave the match betting alone.
