The second day of action sees two more first round groups being played out at the Championship League Snooker tournament when eight more players take to the baize inside the Mattioli Arena in Leicester on Tuesday.
We see our first top 16 player on show in the tournament on Tuesday which should add to the quality that is on show on another potentially competitive day of snooker in the first main event of the season.

Preview
It is Shaun Murphy who will be that first top 16 player showing his hand in this tournament and he will be the main draw on Table One when he heads up Group 3. He is the main seed and will expect to dominate a group which has the Hungarian player Bulcsu Revesz as the second seed. He began life on tour well enough but has faded a touch in the last few months so he’ll be keen to prove something here. Robbie McGuigan is a third seed and he’ll be looking to back up a good win over Lyu Haotian in the British Open qualifiers last week. The veteran Alfie Burden has dropped off the tour now but he did well enough at Q-School to get another invite into this and he’ll be out to do more than just make up the numbers even in this company.

Preview
Matthew Selt concluded last season at the World Championship and his first main draw matches of the new campaign come along when he is the top seed in Group 22 which takes place over on Table Two on Tuesday. Selt is in a quartet which has Scott Donaldson as the number two seed. Donaldson has had his troubles in the last few years but a lack of competitiveness isn’t one of them so he’ll be out to put down a big challenge to Selt. The tournament newcomer Fergal Quinn is the third seed in the group as he looks for early ranking points on his tour card. The group is rounded off with the amateur player from Germany, Umut Dikme who has little to lose here.

Betting
This isn’t the easiest day to bet on and there isn’t a huge amount that I like the look of. One of the reasons why it is a tricky day is I don’t see either of the favourites not winning their group but at odds on, and long odds on in the case of Murphy, they can win if indeed they are good enough. It means that we have to go to the match betting which I’m not a massive fan of betting on the match outcome with the draw in play but there is just enough juice in one of the prices early on.
Bulcsu Revesz had a good win over Robbie Williams in the qualifying competition for the British Open last week and the odds against on him to beat Robbie McGuigan in their first match is just about enough to reel me in. McGuigan had a good win over Lyu Haotian in the same qualifying event here last week but as I mentioned on Monday I’m not convinced that the Chinese player hasn’t completely lost his way. After the Saudi Masters back in September, McGuigan only beat one professional player for the remainder of the season and that was someone ranked well outside the top 100 in World Championship qualifying. Revesz is better than that and while we have to dice with the draw here, the 11/10 on Revesz is just enough for me in this one.
